EA is planning to release pre-configured PCs alongside its big name video game launches in an attempt to bring high-end PC gaming to consumers at a lower price.

Many off-the-shelf gaming PCs can reach into four figure prices, but EAs range is predicted to cost between $600-800 (£300-400).

Although many hardcore gamers will probably opt to build their own PC in preparation for a new game release, EA hopes to target new gamers, perhaps confused by system specs, or those who just want to pick a PC off-the-shelf that is guaranteed to run the latest game.

Other details aren't known yet, but an EA rep has said that gamers will be able to choose between various configurations, depending on the quality of gameplay they are looking for.

The first of such PCs will be launched with Crysis Warhead, the next game in the popular first person shooter series due out later in the year.

i think its a good idea, ie a cheap pc.
You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

EA. The PCs will be the quality of their games, they'll fall apart.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Its not like EA will build the components...

EA wants more game sales, they plan to do this by increasing the number of potential consumers by offering a cheaper and less complex way for other gamers to switch to the PC arena. Since EA is in it for video game sales and not computer sales they can do what very few other companies can: sell computers for almost no profit (or even a small loss) with the understanding that they will offset the lack of profit with an increase in game sales...
Sound like a good idea to me... Gamers with out the understanding to build their own computer get cheap rigs, EA gets a larger group of people who can buy their products.

That fixed my overheating problem but now it shuts down every time I try to play a game.

Bahaha.  For that price, I'd be surprised if they could run their own game, Crysis, much less the new one, on half decent settings.

The thing is the assembly, and that they will use very cheap components from companies like MSI. I wouldn't be surprised if they went for mobos without even solid caps. Cheap PSUs, poor hard drives, and so on. All slammed togheter in a cheap case with insufficient cooling, in under five minutes.

Well that is true... Though I disagree on assembly... Its not like that is something hard, and I promise Dell, HP and friends are already paying the Chinese as little as possible on that front...

You take it out of the package, then stick it in the only slot that it will fit in. A lot of things are even color coded. Anyone who is not retarded can build a computer as long as  they know what parts to use, and realize how easy it is...

I think the worst thing is putting a 775 heatsink on. I still shit myself at how much the mobo bends.

Other than that, its just Ikea.
