The opening ceremony at the Beijing Olympic games was - by all accounts - quite spectacular*. Especially the bit where Chinese gymnast Li Ning apparently jogged towards the torch despite being suspended more than 70 metres aloft.

The picture to the right shows him. It also shows an enormous Blue Screen of Death, a familiar sight to Quake gamers. More interestingly, it shows that BSOD running - or not running - on Windows XP rather than the more up-to-date Vista operating system.

According to Lenovo chairman, Yang Yuanqing, quoted in The Sydney Morning Herald, "If it's not stable, it could have some problems".

We wonder how ex-Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates - who was watching from the stands - felt about the whole thing.

And before you ask what the game reference is to this tale - it's the Olympic Game, isn't it!

Damn, one of our athletes will be out of business for a looong time...(WARNING!!!!! GRAPHIC VIDEO)

But at least our girls beat Germany in handball(Go Görbicz Anita!)
And our swimmer Cseh László came close second behind Phelps(that guy is just unbeatable) winning a silver.
We also got a bronze in women's fencing, won by Mincza-Nébald Ildikó.
Its not bad, though we expected a lot more. Unfortunately our top canoer died one month before the olympics, so probably it would be even less golds than we expected... RIP Kolonics György

That was fucking gruesome, they showed it on the daytime news today without any warning here in Ireland too! I can't believe they had the guys with screen waiting on standby, kind of creepy and off-putting if you're taking part in an event knowing that they have that ready in case you mess up horribly.
