The US is a developed, wealthy country with a massive population.
More people to choose from = better class of athletes.
Take Britain for example, we are also developed and wealthy. But the US has 5x the population of Britain (maths???), hence they win more medals. We also like football and booze too much.

Which is why I made a point of saying 'developed and wealthy'.
America's population size, coupled with the capabality to invest in better training facilities and technology and all that malarky = more medals.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.
China, Russian and India are not know for their world class sporting organizations, because they don't place much research into the area.
The US does, when you look at the track runners for example, who watch their starts from a slo-mo camera, to get the techniques perfected. The research into health and protein supplements and dietitian information is all far ahead of what the other countries employ.

India is not developed. Russian and China are. Aussie Russia China put a lot of resources into their programs, particularly China.KILLSWITCH wrote:

Give it 20 years and they will be winning the most medals, thanks to population size and wealth.

well according to beduin, they need more darkies.
I don't think money is all there is to it, some people are naturally talented at a particular sport, and a higher amount of people gives a higher amount of talented people, like killswitch said:Flaming_Maniac wrote:

No gold farming competitions though.

They are developed, but they don't have the disposable income Americans do. When they have that kind of money they will be winning medals, irrelevant to the size of their population.KILLSWITCH wrote:

The Olympics are so advanced at this point natural talent cannot carry anyone to a gold. It takes training.
They do, but the programs have not been running anywhere near as long as the US has or are anywhere near as sophisticated.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

How do you define a long time...both have had very rigorous programs running for decades. The problem is not will, it is money.TheAussieReaper wrote:

When we went on holiday to Ayia Napa last year, my mate had a pair of Speedo shorts. Halfway through the vacation the 'S' fell off his shorts. Maybe she just wanted to avoid the same embarrasment.usmarine wrote:

It's the state of mind of our athletes & the freedom that attracts the best. We reward personal effort with lots of $ & other incentives. America breeds success & then trains it FTW.
Damn I love capitalism, if we only could have a purer form of it.
