X Box 360 v X Box 360 Elite

Its my sons birthday soon and I was wondering which console would be best for him.. now whilst the spec is obv. better on the Elite will or should I say is this necessary for him. He will use it online for xbox live and will be playing the latest games etc , our current TV isnt HD however thats not to say that we wont have one as prob will buy HD when we replace our current TV so really is it worth it on that thought,,,

Anyway .. any thoughts??

12 yr old boy gaming mad will the Elite give a better faster etc gaming experience or is the 360 console just as good..

Personally I don't see any point in not getting the elite. The elite comes with all the features you can get from an xbox and removes the chance that you will sell your xbox at a later date to get those features. It also helps massively that you have increased harddrive space over the arcade version.

Well the Elite has a much bigger Hard Drive space. In terms of performance, the normal 360 runs just as well as the Elite. A 20GB hard drive with the normal 360 is perfect for your son. However, for a bigger HD space and a HDMI cable to play on a HD TV, the Elite is superior. But it just doesn't seem good enough for it's price, seeing as your son will probably run out of memory in a few years (I'm on a 20GB hard drive and still got 11GB to go, and I got it Easter 2007!) he can just buy a new 20GB Hard Drive for a price of £65, which is a bit extreme.

The Elite has HDMI included, which saves you some money...and a much larger HDD which will be useful for when you can install games in the coming months.

If you can, go for the Elite.

All 360's have HDMI ports now, not just the Elite. I have a premium with HMDI.

The only difference between the elite and the Premium is the hard drive size. If the Elite is a lot more money than the premium then i'd say the premium is better value.

i dont think it is, because my friend went to best buy with his old premium he was going to trade in, but it turned out the elite was the same price as what he paid originally so he got that for free

Dude...the Elite comes WITH the HDMI cable. The Premium does not. That's 50 bucks you won't have to spend extra.

Get the elite, the hard drive, and the look is worth the extra outlay.

Plus i've heard the elite is more reliable, which in my case has been true so far

if you plan on playing online get a computer. It is beyond me why any one would want to pay an annual subscription for Xbox Live just to play online while it is free for a majority of computer games. I even think HALO (2) for PC is free to play online.

I bought my son the Elite last year for Christmas and it is well worth the extra cash to have the Hard Drive and HDMI graphics. Especially since I just got a new TV with HDMI inputs. The graphics look 110% better than a regular XBOX connection and I don't have to worry about him having room on his drive for downloading Demo games or added maps for some games like Halo.
