No, the game populates your game with creatures other players have made, but they're not really playing with/against you.

It's a concept called the 'Metaverse' Chou- every creature/civilization/planet you encounter in-game in the 'Massively Single Player' experience is downloaded and taken from a central Spore server. The computer system analyses the way that players raise their societies and develop their people so that it can decide whether an alien race/planet will react violently or peacefully to your own exploring creations. It's a bit of a complicated system and I think they've dumbed it down significantly since the early preview stages.

Basically if you wipe another race off the face of a planet, that other race was created by some person and their characteristics and culture was defined by another player's actions- but it will have no bearing or effect on their own single-player game; hence the 'Multiverse', very much like parallel dimensions. Just for fun though I think players can view and see a 'stats page' showing just how many times other players have decided to ally/destroy their little babies!

Keep in mind you've only got three installs before you need to either contact EA to get more, or I've read that you may actually have to purchase more installs. It was the same with Mass Effect and Creature Creator.

I'm not dealing with this bullshit, so EA can suck on my left nut. It's a shame too, because Will Wright is the man.

CD, EADL has no DRM, and you don't risk losing or scratching the disk either.
