That's politics for you. Hilarious hypocrisy. Let's not keep things tied down to the USA though. We're on the same level as the US here, and Russia are just as bad as are a load of other East/West countries. See the trick is to not even pay attention to these people anymore. We pretty much totally ignore our politicians these days.

There's been numerous comedy statements from the current US administration and McCain along the lines of 'in the 21st century soverign nations simply don't invade other soverign nations'. All countries involved in invading Iraq should either shut up or follow up their comments with an apology for doing the same thing.

Whether deserved or not the Russians have only been really criticised by the Brits and Yanks.

I'm disappointed France and Germany as well as Australia have not really condemned the Russians as much as they did the Americans.

If you just admit you're a hypocrite you can say anything. I have.

Russia are bad.

How could Australia have condemned the USA when Aussies were also part of the Iraq/Afghan conflicts, also Germany is in A-stan too. I'll admit though it seems the general mainland European criticism of Russia isn't as much as it was for the US.

Then again,

Russia haven't been asking/pressurising anyone else for help in Georgia, and their population hasn't been making a mockery out of any country that refused to join them in the invasion. (Freedom fries). So maybe that's why they don't hate Russia as much.

In the 21st century, the USA has pissed off Western Europe (bar the UK, well the UK government) more than Russia has by a country mile.

Australia are in Iraq + Afghanistan but the strong criticism of the war in Iraq led to the change in Government here (plus a whole string of other issues), but being labeled as the US's deputy Sheriff was not a tag any of us were proud of. Afghanistan we still see as a necessary war, that is the hunt for terrorists.

I wouldn't say it's because they don't hate Russia as much, although you are right. But I also think there is some degree of fear about it.

France isn't exactly worried about the US invading, now is it? Russia on the other hand, is the equivalent to the sleeping giant of the 1940's...

Yeah, I also see Afghanistan as a good war. However, Russia are also saying that Georgia was necessary, it all just depends on who wants to believe what.

I doubt they're worried about Russia invading either, especially since they have nukes and could deal with Russia on their own if they had to. They're more worried about getting dragged into conflicts the US start. At least they were during the buildup to the Iraq invasion.

No it isn't. What you said barely even makes sense.

The US can start little wars all over the globe. Russian can start one big one in Europe. France has nukes, but so do the Ruski's.

And why would France be worried about being dragged into a war the states start, when they never sided with them?

Yeah, it's called M.A.D. It's why they will never go to war. Both countries have the capability to wipe each other off the planet for good.

It's not like the US didn't try to pressurise the French into helping, typical political pressure and all that. Then it failed so out came the anti-French propoganda.

US can start a big one too if they want. But they just don't want to fuck shit up. If US actually wants to wage a big war, it would take A LOT of resources, but they can win.

Both Georgia and Iraq/Afghanistan could be classified as little wars. Both have the potential to escalate into massive wars if they expand. E.g: If Russia decide to invade some other former USSR/Eastern Bloc country or if the US decides to invade another one of them Muslim ones (Iran).

I'm not one to defend Dubya, but the man has a point.  I'm not defending our invasion of Iraq, but 2 wrongs don't make a right.  It's no better for Russia to invade Georgia.

I disagree with the invasion, but there had to be some sort of reaction.

True...  I'm thinking that creating a state called Ossetia might be the best option at this point.

I really agree with you entirely - although, to be honest, most of South Ossetia wants to join Russia. Either let them do that, or create an independant state - but either way, don't leave them in Georgia

As stated in another post I think the US & anyone else for that matter needs to stay out of this one. I believe Russia has property rights & 90% of Ossetia is Russian. They don't want to be georgias no matter how kool the flag is. Game set & match.

Maybe dissapointed, but are you actually suprised?  Pretty much the way to control world opinion these days is to realize that the majority of nations out there would argue if Bush said the sky was blue.

Do you agree with the war in Iraq?  Was it a right choice?  And don't say that Saddam was an asshole coz that we all know.
