Amazing, the Georgians start bullying the Ossetians, the Russians step in and respond and the Russians are the bad guys?

Duhbya is just trying to needle the Russians, first with the various missile bases - which have zero to do with US security, now this.

No, Russians are the good guys whose actions always are of altruistic nature ever since Saint Stalin.

And I pray to god that Russia will never use its arsenal of 10 nuclear missiles against Europe America!

right.  like i said in another thread, nobody knows exactly how it started yet.  people at Janes will not blame one side or the other, so what makes you think you know who started it?

I did criticize Russia when they attacked Gori, read the posts.  Nevertheless, the US has nothing to do there.

I really agree with you entirely - although, to be honest, most of South Ossetia wants to join Russia. Either let them do that, or create an independant state - but either way, don't leave them in Georgia

If that prevents further war, then yeah, I'll support that.

I'm disappointed France and Germany as well as Australia have not really condemned the Russians as much as they did the Americans.
Maybe dissapointed, but are you actually suprised?  Pretty much the way to control world opinion these days is to realize that the majority of nations out there would argue if Bush said the sky was blue.
Sadly... this is true.

Damn straight we're going to needle them with those bases.  If we don't set up something, Russia's going to try and take back all of their old republics.  They already do quite a bit of meddling in the governments of these countries.  If we want to count any of these countries as our allies, we need to do something to help them defend against the Russians.

That's because of the missile shield though...it technically has nothing to do with the Georgia conflict at all.

so a country who has never made a threat to anyone in recent times cant have a missile shield without being threatened to be blown up?

Don't be so naive usmarine, what would the US do if Venezuela stationed a missile system on Cuba?

Hypothetically speaking...not even necessarily nukes, long range missiles that could hit targets in Florida we'll say.

Like I said before, If there was a US-Russia nuclear exchange and there was a US ABM system in Poland, and a Russian one in Venezuela. Then I'm pretty sure that the USA would strike Venezuela and that Russia would strike Poland. It only makes sense to try and neutralise defences. Nuclear warfare really ain't that complicated.

You have to think of it from there position.  The Russians dislike us every bit as much as we do them.  If they did as Braddock said in cuba (the Russians anyway), or even mexico/canada, you would be going ape shit, and Bushy boy would be on TV saying this is a sing of agression by the Russians.

Similarly, considering they dont trust us.  What is to say, that we dont attack the Russians, and this sheilds real purpose is to bring down Russian retaliation?

This is true.  I wouldn't doubt it if Russia aims to put missiles in Cuba again.  We might be able to throw them off though.  We could end our embargo with Cuba and let them open up their markets.  I get the impression that if they had open trade with us, they'd change dramatically in our favor.

The US ending its embargo on Cuba is pretty much as likely as as a Pacific island developing nuclear capabilities. The US will never negotiate with Cuba or let Cuba get on its own feet unless the negotiations involve the clause -joining the United States as a state, seeing as you guys have wanted that for as long as contemporary history remembers .

And what is with the huge Russian paranoia that all you Americans still have? It's so evidentially prevelant in this thread. The Cold-War ended a long time ago you know... Russia only put missiles on Cuban soil back then because you guys were gearing up to invade Cuba and they were all shivering with fear and asking the other big Commie nations for help. So what's your excuse for wanting to place missiles and nukes in Russia's backyard?

While I agree with you on Cuba (although for very different reasons), I'll take back what I said about Poland and Georgia.  Maybe we should just pull back.  If Russia is so harmless, then surely it's ok if we let Georgia do its own thing, and Poland has nothing to worry about.  We'll just build our own missile shield on our own land or maybe parts of Canada if they are ok with it.

Cuba's crime was that it was a success and was busy demonstrating to the rest of the world how a country can rise and develop under the true democratic will of people. Castro wasn't even aligned with the Soviets in 1960 when you guys decided to get rid of him, and the whole Operation MONGOOSE and embargo was actually a devastating blow against a country of innocent people. Talk about abuse of human-rights eh?

And yes, I don't see why you guys can't build a defensive missile 'shield' in a defensive location i.e. on your own continent. We here in the UK manage(d) just fine with our Trident missile system- which is owned and basically operated by you Yanks! So why do you feel the need to put a missile-shield basically on the border of the former Soviet Union? It's more an act of aggression and intimidation than defense... with existing military technology it is more than do-able to set-up a missile defense within your own borders and be 100% protected.
