So I was chatting to a woman who works in a large ( 1200 pupils ) school not too far outside Glasgow. She works as a learning support teacher and was explaining to me that their school has been decanted to this about-to-be-demolished building. Yes, you heard right.

The government, in their incredible wisdom, are trying to renew the school around here and investing a small fortune and in doing so have fucked up everything.

So these kids have to go and spend 2 years in this about-to-fall-down piece of shit building. Wait, it gets better :

Half of the classes will be in porta cabins. Funny thing is, the children come back to school this monday, and they are missing 50% of the cabins. Bravo.
Now, this building has been scheduled for demolition for at least 2 years and now it has to house 1200 pupils. It also has rats in it.

Just to make things better, there will no replacement teachers if one gets sick; the school will just have to ask a french teacher to take the physics class into hers - remember this takes place in a fucking porta cabin.

On top of that, the budget for photo copying has been wiped... yes, deleted from the school budget. Now, we all remember all those absolutely awful textbooks which didn't contain more than drivel. So now all the good teachers who have spent time creating their own sheets on the course  will not be able to use them. Ever.

To top it all of, the council workers are taking strike this wednesday so as the pupils come back, they go back home in 2 days because the school can't operate.

I passed the new ( oh god, the irony ) school a few weeks ago. I thought it was a bomb site.

This is beyond ridiculous.

They should switch to an all-Creationism curriculum to finish it all off.

This is the 21st century, it should have changed.

My Primary school had a few WW2 era "temporary" buildings too. I bet they're still there.

This is a high school, with probably 3 times as many pupils and a much more important stage in education. It should not be like this.

The very same century when Mugabe still is Emperor, Israel and Palestine keep fighting for a tiny slice of shitty land and GWB ruled the world for 8 years, so it doesn't surprise me at all.

I can sympathize with the pupils. My first primary school was always under threat of closure but it managed to stay open. Although this was on a much larger scale: the school had around 25 pupils altogether, through seven years. When I was in P6 (my last year there) there was one other pupil along with me. At the end of P6, the school closed and I was forced to move to another school for P7, and then another for Form 1.

This kinda stuff sucks. The education board, at least in Northern Ireland, really sucks. (not just for what I wrote above, of course)

I'd happily say that Primary School is the most important stage of education.

I think we should all go back to living like monkeys. Seems like the best option.

How about reading, writing, maths and basic social skills.

Learning isn't restricted to the knowledge of facts and application of techniques.

Well you're right.  It's been changed.  I'm shocked tbh, the tight fisted bastardos that forced us to work in sub zero temperatures in little wanky pokey porta cabins have gone an built a brand spanking new building.  Welcome to Rhodesway School, Bradford!

Only have a pic of a building site

Nope, I learnt all that at home. Maybe social skills, but the rest I did not learn in Primary School and if I did ( like some maths ) I learnt a new way in High School.

The first 2-3 years of high school. Where you learn the basics of being a teenager and from that you learn how to hold yourself in later years. You also have a platform from where all your further learning springs from. If you don't start of your first few years well, it's not going to be a good few years afterwards.

My god, though Glasgow is the poorest city in the UK so..

Im glad i went to a pretty good school, i remember the school had a budget of £2 million to refurbish 12 science classrooms which was completed after about 1 year, and at the end of it was excellent facilities. And for the 6 years i was there, there was nothing but non-stop upgrading.

When i was at school i was speaking to someone high up in the school and he said that the school gets something like £5 million a year budget. I think this was due to the fact that it was 3rd on the rankings for a sheffield/rotherham school.

Not really it one of the biggest in Bradford.  2 Gymnasium's, A pool, all weather pitch, 3 football pitches, 1 rugger pitch, 4 tennis courts that also doubled up as 4 Five a side football courts.

According to the webiste it has 1400 students.  There were 1000 when i was there.
