do you know how much money is exchanged between Ireland and the evil US? maybe you two should spend your time writing your government and asking them to stop doing business with the evil US.
It is because they hate the fact that America is the big dog on the block and their country is irrelevant. It eats them alive to know that America can look out for its interests in the world and does so unapologetically despite the whimpers of European governments. What really pissed off Europe ( and Euro-peons) was that unlike Clinton, Bush was willing to say fuck you to Germany, Russia, and France and invaded Iraq anyway thus fucking up all their oil contracts, labor agreements, and weapon deals they had with this obviously dangerous dictator who had them all in his hip pocket.
So, like the Marine said, if you don't like it bitch to YOUR government because Bush really doesn't give a fuck what you think.

I like your idea of letting russia take over the place. Im sure the world will be happy if russia was the dominant power in the globe instead of us.

MAN MAN MAN
pure protein eh.....
Thing is, there is no shortage of this in america alone. See everyone from Michael Moore to Cindy Sheehan to Noam Chomsky to Alex Jones to the ACLU...and hell, most hollywood actors. Then throw in the NYT, the New Yorker (broke the Abu Ghraib story) etc.Braddock wrote:

I agree with you that gov't needs watchdogs in the form of the people, but let's not pretend you are some lone voice speaking out against oppression.
I mean the story is in the guardian, a main news source for many of us who do the international news thing.
Maybe because the topic just seems like a setup. In the first post you fully concluded that this allegation is true "so much for the debate only being about waterboarding.." So then the rest is basically, post in and express your outrage at the slide down into evil that the USA is on and it's all good.Braddock wrote:
Why don't you deal with the topic in hand instead of turning yet another debate into a "you hate America!" moan-fest? I sometimes get the impression you wish we had Soviet style censorship on this forum when it comes to all matters involving the US Government.

America is basically the cause of the problem in much of the world.
Iran - A mess thanks to US inteference which backfired spectacularly.
Iraq - A mess created as a counterweight to Iran, see above.
Please stay out of the ME, no-one wants you there, try to find a way to make a car which gets sensible mileage (hint - copy the Prius or just use diesels, they've been around 100 years)

The Guilford 4 and Birmingham Six were tortured to gain a conviction and the conviction was quashed after 12 years. Forcing a public apology from Tony Blair and a big payout to the wrongly jailed. Plus the victims of the bombings never got Justice.

All it will take is a change in US policy in years to come and the flood gates will be opened. Ppl who have been tortured will be freed as the testimony's will be deemed unreliable and guilty men will walk, along with innocent men. And the US government will be sued for billions.
No. I'm loathe to agree that they did absent any proof. Particularly when there are plenty of other, more rational, explanations for what happened.Braddock wrote:

Well I suppose that's similar to how I accused you in the Israel thread of always staunchly defending Israel's innocence until proven guilty while not putting as much effort into defending the Palestinian's innocence until proven guilty. All I can say to you is that I believe in the concept of innocent until proven guilty, even if it might seem that I do not in certain scenarios. I also believe in scrutinizing the powers that be to keep them on their toes and fully accountable and I take accusations of abuse of power very seriously.
Military operations don't involve "innocent until proven guilty", as the individual operations don't involve accusations of wrong-doing (the rhetoric surrounding them might, but the ops themselves do not).
You and I are generally in agreement. I just believe in equal application of the concept, regardless of which side makes the accusations.
When it comes to Hamas (vice Pals in general), I only go off their stated doctrine that it's perfectly acceptable to target civilians.

Israeli doctrine is also that its OK to kill civilians, providing you hit a militant now and then.
Hamas has a better ratio of military to civilian hits than the IDF, interesting considering Hamas supposedly target civilians 'nearly exclusively'.
And as noted before, the IDF kill many more children than Hamas.

It may surprise you Lotta but I like America, New York is one of the most impressive cities I've ever visited. Many of my favourite movies and directors are American as are many of my favourite bands and musicians. I have American friends and get along with them very well thank you very much. What your opinion exemplifies is that many Americans (not all) find it far easier to play the anti-American card than to cast a serious eye over the affairs of the country they claim to love so much.
I hate NY

Who ever said I don't feel sorry for innocents killed in any conflict? Deaths of non-combatants are horrible and regrettable, which is why we work so hard and put ourselves at risk time and again to mitigate them.Braddock wrote:

Just because I don't excoriate the Israelis doesn't mean I don't think the civilian deaths are a horrible tragedy. The thing that pisses me off is that Hamas and Hezbollah intend to create those horrible tragedies. If the IDF could achieve their objectives without putting a single Palestinian civilian at risk, they would. Hamas and Hezbollah have ensured that the IDF will never have that option.

Israeli doctrine is nothing even close to that. In fact, their doctrine is the opposite of it. Perhaps you should bother yourself to research a topic a bit before you make a claim that's a bare-assed lie.
