Pre 9-11 I viewed the world through an entirely different set of lens.

I embraced concepts of Eastern philoposy and adopted a view towards foreign people and nations similar to how a child learns to deal with a honey bee; " don't bother them and they won't bother you. " Except I embraced learning from their alien cultures.

I had a fairly deep mistrust of our federal government and wished they would look at me like a child should look at a honey bee.

Come 9-11 I embraced the concept of revenge. I wanted blood.
Seven years later, I wonder how my sense of patriotism has been used against me to erode my liberties and enslave my children with debt.
I wonder if this is all a media creation.

Bottom line is that events shape views. I am no longer the person I was when I registered my account.

It seems to me that this is a result of changes in our national circumstances, rather than changes in my views.  How can you view our invasion of Iraq in one light and Russia's invasion of Georgi as in another? It's because you have the shades pulled and fail to see the other sides point of view.

So as I distance myself from prior statements know that it is a commentary on the changing landscape and no faltering on my part.

Of course events shape views...

Like you said, just for example - 9/11.

Events change things all the way up until the change become inconvenient and everything resumes its previous course.

This is the real problem with the war, as it was with WW2. After 4 years of war, everyone has decided 911 is too inconvenient to live with so we need to end the war and resume our normal uninterrupted un-inconvenienced lives. This of course, until another 911 happens.

The polls reflect this. Now Obama will win the presidency. IF an attack occurred in the next few months, McCain will be the certain victor.

Because during a time of war or distress, the Repuplican Party, post Vietnam, has the image of being the stronger party to stand up to enemies. The democrats are pretty well known for its pussification policies during such times. I give you Iran hostage crisis as a perfect example.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Pussification, but your right.

When it comes to war time Governments the Republican party is seen as favourable.

Simply because they blow out the budget, rack up debt, spend big on the military and remove certain human rights in the name of "freedom".

We aren't fighting a WW2 kind of battle.

Lemme ask you something Slick, how many Nato countries have troops in country in Iraq right now?

Exactly.. I heard a Democrat say the other day that his party lost their balls after Kennedy. He's what you call one of them thar (9/11) democrats . Sometimes the country needs to go through a conservative stage.. sometimes it needs a little more liberal attitude. You don't do 55 mph all the time.

Of course events shape views.  Any event can provide definitive context and a point of reference to an ideology and/or viewpoint.

Speaking of human rights.. which party was it in America that officially abolished slavery?

The extremely conservative Dixiecrat party was a splinter of the Democratic party (not exactly the ideal party for human rights).

Stop subscribing to these political cults. Their primary purpose is to remove criticism by stripping away the individual mind.

Truman still won. lol And I'm sure there's something more recent you could have found.

Anyway, my post was purposely lowing-esque to counter his extremist views.

But I will say the Republicans have been terrible in terms of human rights in the last decade. You only have to look at the Patriot Act for an example and the stripping away of freedoms, even basic ones, in places like Gitmo and the military trials which have been undeniably unjust.

The Patriot Act was almost unanimously supported by BOTH sides of the aisle...that's SCARY!

America runs on the 24hr headline news cycle, so it only makes sense that we are prone to knee-jerk reactions, all the way up to the head of state.  People don't consider the finer points.  They read a 1 page article (if that), and suddenly believe they have the moral obligation to fix whatever the article told them was wrong.  IT IS INSANITY to anyone who stops to really think about it.

Pretty thoroughly.
Get a longer and wider perspective and 'events' become less important.

I honestly don't know.
I know this isn't a WW2 type fight. I said like WW2, people are getting sick of war after4 or 5 years of it.

I honestly don't know without looking it up.

Regardless, whatever the number is, it does not take away from my post stating that Americans have short memories and those memories are influenced by convenience.

What we are sick of is Iran benefiting from the situation. Private companies getting riching doing soldiers work. Iraq awash in oil dollars while we go collectively into unsustainable debt. We are sick of democrats funding this war and then saying things that make it sound like we are committing high crimes. We are sick of the gouging the oil companies do in this time of war; a terrorist farts and the price per barrel goes up. We are sick of the devalued dollar and see plainly that a war " not figured into the regular budget " is being funded with borrowed money. Our nation acts like some people do when they know they are going down financially; they wrack up credit card balances before going BK.

All of this is for what? So the Raqis don't grow up to be terrorists? Because the U.N. needed an enforcement wing?

Think what you will about Bush. I say this Iraq war is creating potential terrorist at home in the form of repossed homeowners and citizens desperate for government accountability. The banks are fucking us hard while the republicans fund their war machine with Chinese currency.

Or just put it mildly; the republicans have become the " borrow and spend " party. Tax and spend sounds better as you have more real time data on the results of said spending.

The growing sentiment is that it would be better to abandon the gwot than to go broke fighting it.

Republicans have become the perpetual war party. Fuck 'em.

Obama is insane, one needs look no further than is global poverty tax proposal.  Biden is a establishmnet hack who voted for the war and then slandered the president for fighting it. Fuck 'em.

So what now?

To sound extreme........Take our country back. This of course will never happen since it would be too inconvenient to do so. There is too much Xbox to play, and too many SUV's to pay for. No one will be able to pull themselves away from their MYSPACE accounts long enough to do something. Hell, I will even include myself in that description. ( bills to pay) Asa nation we are complacent and lazy and just can't be bothered with anything that distracts us from our normal routine. Certainly nothing that will be distracting AND inconvenient.

All in all though, a good post.
