People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants to buy a SeaWorld park, possibly the one in San Diego, free the animals inside and replace them with virtual reality exhibits, it was reported today.

Officials with the animal rights group say they have an anonymous donor willing to shell out big money to purchase at least one of SeaWorld's three parks, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Beer company Anheuser-Busch, which is in the process of being purchased by Belgium firm InBev, operates SeaWorld parks in San Diego, Orlando and San Antonio. Experts believe InBev will divest itself of Anheuser-Busch's parks, according to the Union-Tribune.

PETA sent InBev a letter Friday offering to buy one park, with plans to replace existing animal exhibits with virtual reality exhibits, the newspaper reported.

The animals would be placed in sanctuaries with hopes of returning them to their natural habitats some day, the newspaper reported.

Anheuser-Busch owns seven other theme parks in addition to its SeaWorld parks. Combined, the parks could be worth as much as $4 billion, according to the Union-Tribune.

Where do you stand with this issue? Should all animal theme parks release their animals?

Now they can get recaptured and put in a different seaworld.

Oh ok...How about they just make the exhibits at Seaworld more like these fancy sanctuaries they plan to put them in, and then just leave em at Seaworld until one day a guy from Peta says, "Ah fuck it, now seems like a good time to release em back into the wild, lez do it!"

That way they can keep some of the kids happy before they send these animals off to die when they get cast out in the wild and are rejected by mother nature.

Tastes like little baby seals getting skinned alive and writhing in pain on the floor as they die.

Sea World should sell to Peta, then take that money and open up a new and improved and even twice as oppressive version and call it "Sea World EXTREME!"  And open it right next to the previous one now owned by Peta.  But of course the new one won't get any business because Pam Anderson will be in the old Sea World giving tours in her baywatch outfit.

Eh, good. Unless we are doing scientific research with the animals, let them go.

That's pretty cool...  If I wanted a dog, I'd probably get one of those too (if I could afford one).

Yeah same. Though you gotta exercise them sort of dogs for like an hour/2 hours a day. After the 10th time I'd be getting pretty tired.

Awesome dog, rare though.

PETA are tards, the majority of animals if freed will die because they havent lived in the wild.

Basically they want to kill the animals, isn't that counter to their regular goals.

lol, those animals would get eaten in days

they're happier in the parks, they'd be lost, confused, and hungry in the wild

SeaWorld in San Diego sucks balls.  Let them have that crummy park.  Seriously, there are maybe 2 exhibits worth going to.  Aquarium of the Pacific is waaaay better.

There is no inherent harm in using animals as entertainment, as long as the animals are humanely treated - which is where SeaWorld doesn't exactly pass with flying colors.  However, there would have to a very intricate plan for PETA to introduce the creatures back into to the wild for this to be beneficial.  I am thinking PETA doesn't want the park to become property of an entity they (PETA) don't feel 'fit' to run it.  Maybe it will bankrupt PETA and people will start donating to animal groups that are far less self-aggrandizing and more useful.

I like PETA and what they do, and I dont have a problem coughing up 50 bucks for a donation

But if they said, "Hey, wanna put 50 bucks down to BUY SEAWORLD, RELEASE THE ANIMALS, AND REPLACE EXHIBITS WITH VIRTUAL REALITY?" I wouldn't drop a dime for it. Id rather it be for something else PETA does.

Bottom line. how much money would they waste on that freeing a handful of animals? How many regular animals could they help with the money? Like animals being neglected, sleeping in shit and scarcely being fed?

Pick and choose PETA, pick and choose.

Would you donate $50 if they told you it was going to buy paint for a PETA activist to throw on a designer's coat?

There are other nonprofits that are more successful, like the ASPCA.  PETA is largely filled with self important-causes and people.

PETA is crap. Here, let's take some trained and captivity-raised animals and put them in open water to fend for food!

Oh, and waste a shit ton of money while we're at it.

Fucking dolts.

How noble of PETA - animals shouldn't' die in capitivity, they should be released to be immediately be eaten predators or starve to death due to lack of hunting skills.

Sometimes I don't think people think these things thru.
