You can get a good camera for a lot less than that. You're probably going to spend more money on the glass for it.
My SLR was like £300, extra lenses should I want to acquire them are like 500 and up
I bought this one about a year ago. This price has come down a lot (I paid over 600). It is an awesome all around lens.

The Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens is by far, a favorite all round lens. If you're out on a photography trip and only have room for one lens, this is the one to take.

Well i guess i would be considered a begginer. I just use the regular digital camera's that you would use everyday and even then i haven't done much of that.

If you want it more serious, i also recommend the 2D and 5D.

Canon <3
Wtf?

You mean the EOS 1D?

Nexus, me thinks you have opened a can of worms here.

I'm a Canon shooter. Then there are people who shoot Nikon. And then there are people that shoot whatever else. I won't root for my "side", because different cameras suit different people. Apart from researching on the internet, which is ESSENTIAL, go to all your local camera stores and have a look and a feel of a few of the consumer DSLR's from Canon and Nikon. One might feel more natural to you. However take their advice with a grain of salt, as many of the camera stores usually have the interests of one of the major brands in mind.

A few websites you could look at are:
- Photography on the Net, an extensive Canon forum (161,000 members...)
- www.the-digital-picture.com , some really good and well set out Canon equipment reviews
- http://photozone.de/ , lens reviews
- http://www.dpreview.com/ , VERY good and in depth site for Camera reviews

One thing you should note, and it's a MAJOR source of dissapointment when moving to DSLR-land, is that images from a DSLR are inherantly not as "vibrant" as those from a point and shoot. They can be seen as lacking something. To get the full potential from having a DSLR, you will HAVE to post-process your images using your computer (and some sort of photo editing software). Be prepared to have to do that.

Good luck with the choice. Don't rush into anything, and remember it can get hell expensive... I think I now have $10k AUD worth, or something ridiculous like that.

Ig, I deleted your second post about selling the rebel, cause technically it's advertising Don't do it again.

The EOS Rebel is the consumer version of Canon's auto-focus SLR range (note that SLRs are traditionally manual focus... well my ~30 year old Canon AE-1 is ) Soo... if you like your film photography, yeah sure.

Canon's digital equivalent would of course be the Canon EOS Digital Rebel. I used to have a Digital Rebel XT (aka EOS 350D), but I've since moved on to the EOS 40D... but the 350D is still a very capable camera. I think the latest one is the Digital Rebel XSi (the 450D).

I'm not sure about the latest releases from the other major manufacturers.

Get a Canon or Nikon.

I'll make sure you get shot if you buy anything else.

I got a Nikon D80 with a 70-300mm lens ($1200 or so, new) which I use mainly for paintball photography, and I love it.
I am thinking of getting a 50mm though, because the one I'm looking at is faster, and pictures at 100mm+ always seem to look like shit anyways.

I wasn't, really. Just wanted a sharp to 'blur' on the slot loading drive.

sorry, but there's nothing there. its a good demonstration of the technique (a lot of people refer to it as bokeh), but not much else.

i mean there's nothing defining about it. its just a photo of your CD slot. its not interesting, although you've demonstrated the technique superbly--quite a few techniques, actually. the second photo you posted demonstrates the rule of thirds nicely. also the shine off the buttons is just enough that i would have trashed the photo if i had several to choose from. like i said it's taken well and it demonstrates the technique, but its just lacks pop and punch as a subject.
