The recent completion of the LUAS light rail system and the Dublin port tunnel, in conjunction with the DART, raise Dublin above a 1 but it sucks that there's no subway and no train to the airport.

I think the Paris subway system is very good.
Yes it does have many lines but its so not confusing and very easy to use, and plus those fold able extra seats are soooooo nice!!!!

There is public transportation everywhere in NYC. I still think it takes too long to get places though.

Taxis, coaches to Melbourne, buses for the townie kids and free fare for all the country kiddies for school (thx Jeff), "Community Buses" (read: a van) for the oldies

Sub-par roads. No trains, trams, A380s, Concordes, intercontinental superliners or matter transporters.

2/5.

Yes, I give Paris 5/5. The metros (esp. line 14) are nice, clean, new and always on time. There's one every 3 minutes. The buses are in ok condition, but they are slow because the traffic is always jammed on every bloody street. Nothing to be done, though. The new trams are about the same as the metros, but I don't get the point.

Ottawa, on the other hand, gets a 1. I live at the end of it, and there is no bus line. The nearest stop is 2 km away, and then it takes 1 hour to get to the closest "hub". From there, it takes 30 min. to get wherever along the core. that's only because they deleted the O-train project, thereby incurring a 230 million dollar penalty, and leaving me with my feet

I only use the tram to get around, and thats very well maintained. Its fast, its cheap (you can always get in without a ticket) and there is a tram every 10 mins.

I'd give it a 4 because of the high prices, but the trams are designed by Porsche Design, so it gets a 6/5

Seriously, in Oslo, you don't need a car at all - public transportation will get you everywhere.

4 here, too. Bus to the town next to us every 10 minutes, and they're always on time unless the traffic fucks everything up.

In my actual hometown it would be about 1.5, but here in West Laf there are out-fucking-standing buses and an adequate train system.

4/5. Rely on busses daily, and they are on mostly on time. Relatively clean and new, so it aint that bad.

Trains- 4/5- However much people say the UK train service is shit, I have yet to catch a train that wasnt on time (admittedly, I dont catch trains that often....).

Our roads are pathetic. Potholes everywhere, you have to dodge everyone of them, cracks and bumps in the road, it's like we get earthquakes everyday or something, it's terrible. And when my city paves the road, they make it worse than it was originally.

Everyone in UK complains about the buses etc. but Birmingham is, imo, the best place to live in in England.

Translink (bus company of Northern Ireland) are given over £1 million p.a. from the Government and they still make a loss. Their buses are pathetically old and worn, and their new ones and horribly uncomfortable on your back. They are usually late, thus leaving late, over crowded, and give double decker buses to routes and times that don't need them, and single buses when they do.

I don't like buses generally and from what i can gather they're a bit pointless, they arrive on time but don't go where you want them too.

Whenever i go into the nearset big town (blackpool, about 5 miles away) I take the train, its £2.60 for a return ticket which isn't bad, they're generally on time too. Though the quality of the train is just luck of the draw, sometimes it'll be a disturbingly old wreck, sometimes its a shiny new-ish train.

so rather harshly i give it a 2/5 as there could be alot more train tracks that there are (you go to blackpool (end of the line) or you go to preston and onwards.

Though it is really useful for going on holiday via manchester airport as its the same price as a taxi, but alot more spaceous (based on a trip i made this april).

Vienna is pretty nice. Individually, I would say each form (bus, underground, tram) might get a 3.5-4, but as the whole system, I give it a 5.

Buses: On the outskirts, they come rather seldom and are often late, but you have to get pretty far away to have that problem. They're large and comfortable and get around a lot and cover any hole in the system that the other two lines leave.

There are also Nightline buses that copy the tram and underground lines when everything else stop at 12:30. Those get you anywhere and run until the normal stuff starts again at around 6am (maybe earlier).

Trams: Eh, these would probably earn a 3.5 for me. They get around and are hardly ever held up by traffic on the seldom sections in the outskirts that have to share the rails with cars. But about 50% of them are these very old models and do not accomodate wheelchairs at all or the handicapped. The newer models are really nice, though, compared to the older models. Only thing is that none of them have A/C.

Underground: Comes every 2-5 minutes (rush hours are when they run them close). They just finished an extension that goes straight to the big football (soccer) stadium that was used for the Euro. About 50% of the trains are these new Siemens models with A/C. The others lack it and in the summer can get really rough on the bad days. But they are MUCH larger than those piddly 70s trains in London and MUCH more spacious.

Then there is the Schnellbahn that runs mostly around the outskirts and goes out of the city and those are dope.

Best thing I love is if you have to cross the city from one end to another, it will take AT MOST 1 hour. Also, a one-way ticket only costs €1.70 and you can use it on any line provided that you are moving in ONE direction. But there are month cards, week card, day cards, etc. All very cheap.

There are no taxi, bus, and trains in my area so the only way to get to other place is to get a ride or walk.
