Hi,

I was going to buy a new processor for my computer.

My specs:

Mobo: Intel DQ965GF
My old processor: E6300 @ 1.86Ghz
My new processor: E8400 @ 3.00Ghz

Now I asked a local computershop to check if the new processor fits in the Mobo. They said no because the Front Side Bus speed was to high for my mobo...
Can this be possible? Because previous time I asked something about this, you guys said it was possible for me.

Thanks.

Wouldn't it make sense to buy a new mobo, why just replace the processor?

Just overclock your current CPU to 3GHz. There are 965s that do FSB1333, but there is no guarantee that your is one of those. If your current mobo does neitherOCing or FSB1333, just get a new mobo, and then OC your CPU.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

You can always get a mobo/cpu combo.  They still sell them as a pair.

Dang that's a pain in the Ass... I expected that it was all ok

EDIT: I was wondering if the E7200 would be a good improvement?
EDIT2: Or is there any other good CPU for my mobo?

First, make sure your card has the BIOS to support 45nm CPUs. Then, find yourself an E5200.

Gigabyte EP45-DS3. A quick Google suggests its around €110.

Anyway...

If I would buy that mobo then I need to know if everything fits in it.

-CPU:
E8400
-RAM:
1GB stick DDR2 @ 800Mhz
2x 512MB stick DDR2 @ 800Mhz
-GFX CARD:
Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 512Mb (Company of Heroes version)
-Audio:
Sigmatel High Definition Audio

I'd recommand the Gigabyte GA-(E)P35-DS3. Unless going Crossfire or insane overclocking, there's no real point in getting a P45. Then, I still say, get an E5200! It takes only a slight bump in FSB (200 to 240) to get it to the same speed as an E8400. It would probably not even need a voltage bump. In 90% of applications (Including gaming), the 2MB vs 6MB L2 won't matter at all. As long as there is at least than 1MB, it won't matter for most things.

Ok, the E5200 got 2.5Ghz as standard with an FSB of 800Mhz so it fits ... but is FSB important for gaming or not? Cuz now I got 1066Mhz FSB from my E6300...

And do you think that a Belgian local store can 'bump' or overclock the E5200 till 3.0Ghz? (OR do you think that they can bump the E6300 to 3.0Ghz??)

FSB doesn't really havehat much of an impact on performance, as long as it isn't rediculously low, like 533MHz. As for overclocking, read my guide, and see if your BIOS supports it. intel boards are known for having very limited BIOS options. If it does, I'm quite certain it could reach 3GHz. (The E6300)
