does it run bf2 ok with no issues ?

thanks.

its only £100 more or so than a gtx 280 and much quicker once you enable AA AF etc, so worth buying to last me 3 years

That card will rip up BF2.

If my 7600GT's run BF2 full high with no problems, I'm 100% sure that that will. A GTX 280 will run BF2 fine, too.

But the 4870X2 is way more powerful. Might provide some issues with it's whole "Dual GPU" thing, but all in all, if you don't mind spending the extra £100, get one

meaning two 4870X2s?  if it's just one, it really acts as one card.  i'd say no issues, especially with the new Catalyst 8.8 drivers that just came out.

In a few more months development time, BF2 will run on cell phones....

NOT a demanding game for any new hardware.

Should be alright, even if you get into problems, disabling one of the cores, it will still rip BF2.  My 4850 barly goes under 100 frames all high with the filters.

well i meant errors, for example my 8800 gtx used to leave loads of black hexagons all over the terrain, things like that really!

artifacting - most probably bad drivers or overheating.

as for the cooler, i've been reading and two VF900s have been reported to fit...

a CoolIT solution may be coming soon as well.

yeah I played it on all high with a 6800, until 3 months ago, when I got this sexy beast of a machine.

What is it usually at? Cause I get ~100-115fps all on high, 1680x1050 with my 7950GT. Shouldn't you be getting a bit more than that with the newer card?

I doubt that, tbh.

My friend had a 6600, and it barely got 20FPS on all low.

I get 120-140 with my HD4850 on 1600x1200, all max settings, 8(i think?)xAA.

well, it all depends if your friend had a single core cpu.

It hits that cap.  I cant remember the command line to se what it actually attains.  100 when I tried hooking it up via the HDMI converter to my 40'' Samsung (1920x1080).

Seroiusly, if BF2 is the only game you play, you will _NOT_ need a HD4870. 8800GT at max.

McPissed-off I am...

OK, this 4870x2 arrives and I plug it into the PCIE slot. I go to hook up the power... and what? There is (1) different pin connector on the card; the card takes two power connects (1) 6-pin and (1) 8-pin... OK check the package for a (2) 4-pin to 8-pin PCI power converter? Nope, nothing in the box and I'm not sure if it would work anyways. I read the installation guide: it says it will work with (2) 6-pin PCI power connections. I have a 600 Watt power supply but no 8-pin PCI power connector; just the (2) 6-pins. I plug it in as it states in the manual (2) 6-pins - and beep ... beep-beep; no post.

OK, whats' the problem? Do I need a different power supply? If so, fuck it!!! I am returning this. It was a present for someone, not a trip down money-lane in upgrades. If (2) 4-pins to (1) 8 pin converter will do the trick I'll try that?

I know nothing about what is going on with the power situation; or needs of this card (other than the box said 450watt min & 6-pin PCI power connector). Why would they sell something that it says is supported; and yet it's not. I found other people on other forums with the same problem but no solution. ATI sucks. Oh and the card is overly long I had to take apart the hard drive bay to fit the stupid thing in the case.

You know all the guys to blame for it, are the posters above me.

I'd return the card, you've said it's a known issue with no solution found.

Exchange the card for an Nvidia gtx 280 + save £100.

It's a crossfire computer... It would be nice if it had an ATI solution in the case. So, that if upgrading at a future date peaked my interest I would then supply a second ATI card (if I felt like it).

____________
I tried the computer with a 8800GT and no problem. I tried it with 2-old-1900XT in crossfire mode and no problem. One 4870x2, beep beep beep...

Fuck it, I am returning it.

If you're going to get a couple 4870x2's, I'd invest in a slightly better PSU.
