BIG DILEMMA: OPRAH BALKS AT HOSTING SARAH PALIN; STAFF DIVIDED
Fri Sep 05 2008 08:55:46 ET

Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America -- but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket!
Oprah's staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
"Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on," an insider explains. "Oprah's website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama."
One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!

It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin's historic convention speech.
Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.
Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama's campaign, refused requests for comment.

how pathetic it is for the black Americans that achievements only account if they are liberal achievements.

While I think Oprah reserves the right to invite whomever she wants onto her show, it seems hypocritical that she would invite Obama but not Palin because she "made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates."  But hey, this controversy will generate more media attention than if Oprah had just invited Palin in the first place, which is all any celebrity really wants.

She should have just been upfront with her reasons. Obviously we all know that she is supporting Obama. It's her show and I agree with her right to have whoever she wants on.

I will be the first to try to play the white race card.

This is just another example of the black woman holding the white woman down.

Agreed, it's her show, let her have whoever she wants on it. Her show is also an entertainment talk show, it's not a news program so she has no obligation to give candidates equal air time.

Stereotypers will hate this idea, but it's entirely possible that Oprah supports Obama for his stance on the issue and not because he's black. So many people look down on women and minorities and believe they're so small minded that they will only vote for someone who looks like them. Maybe they think this way because that's the way they vote (we have had 43 consecutive white male presidents), but not everyone else does. I'm not saying that no one does, people vote for all types of bullshit reasons, but not everyone. She may just prefer Obama. And if she does, he's politcally very different that Palin and it's unlikely that anyone who understands their platforms supports them both.

Oprah opened the door when she voiced her support for Obama. This invites people to attack one of his biggest supporters.

See, according to the DNC, if you are black or a woman, you should be a diehard Democrat, because the evil Republicans want to bring back segragation and lower the glass ceiling.  So, every time they see a black or a woman who is a Republican, it can only be because they 'sold out.'  Condi Rice is nearly the anti-christ to them.

yes, as long as you have no knowledge of political parties or the 19th century, the republicans did free the slaves.

Lemme just say, if Lincoln were alive today, he would be a Democrat, or at least a liberal independent.  Lincoln's republican party was basically the polar opposite of what it is today.  As the democrats then were the polar opposite of what they are now.

If Lincoln were alive today he'd assassinate himself. But yes political positions change. Kennedy had a good amount of conservative values. I mean cmon.. would you ever hear a modern day Democrat say "My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."..gtfo lol.

I think Oprah is pretty cool and she has done a ton of things for people all over the world... this is a crappy position for her to be in though...
Women are really enthralled with Sarah Palin but she gave her support to Barack... her best bet is to make a quick decision and stick by it and not listen to any press about it either way...

Gimme a break, they do that stuff because they have to. The whole concept behind the Republican party is less goverment intervention so people can do things for themselves.

It's her show.  She ultimately signs the pay checks.  It  appears to me that Oprah finds race is more important than sex in a candidate.

And why should she have to play host to Palin?

I'm sure she has her own media friends on other networks.... right?

Maybe she finds the issues more important. We don't all vote for our own race.

Because Oprah is obvously a socially conservative republican fighting her every instinct by supporting Sen. Obama.  like you said, it's her fucking show, she can do whatever she wants.
