May 2006 -- McCain votes against additional funding to the VA for health care facilities

Im glad his supporters care enough to rescue flags though.

What would you suggest? That all surplus and discarded flags be put into perpetual storage?
At the very least, they were an investment that could have been re-used at rallies in Colorado as well as the rest of the nation during the general election

No worries though:
This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story.
Someone found a use for them. Absolutely owned tbh.

If you want to know how to properly dispose of the flag check the US flag code. Or contact http://www.legion.org/ or http://www.vfw.org/ and they can help you .

No one suggested here that it was a “nefarious plot”. I hardly think that Obama would have directed his staff to throw 12,000 American flags in a dumpster.  In fact, until Team Obama issued this ludicrous statement, the story didn’t have anything to do with them.
I can't find the proper procedure of disposal on that code, care to help me?

I mean the procedure of disposing a perfectly fine flag.  Its not in the code (I can't seem to find it).

What do you mean enforced? The DNC didn't break the code. If they had I'm sure there would have been a hefty fine. It's a matter of perspective I think. It's right inline with the Obama doesn't wear a flag pin or put his hand over his heart.

should have chosen a different word.  I just seem to recall issues about the flag always end up getting mentioned whenever other, more important things are out there.  flags arent supposed to be worn as articles of clothing either.

or allowed to be flown at night without a light being shown on it.

oh i am sorry.  i will just go around saying the US sucks.

so here is a question for you guys.

back a while ago a US soldier got in trouble for doing nasty things to the koran.  a lot of you were pissed and started bashing the US as usual with the usual and typical bf2s lines.  but, its only a book.  whats the problem?  why were a lot of you pissed at that since it is only a book?  paper and glue.
Throwing some extra flags away because you have no use for them or whatever is one thing. Intentionally doing "nasty things" to them is another. There's a symbolism when you burn a flag for example (not that I have any particular problem with the latter).
it doesnt matter.  all i hear is "it is just cloth"  well a book is "just paper and glue"   you guys want to play that game for one and not the other.

Apparently you're supposed to burn 'tattered' or 'worn' flags...otherwise you're supposed to contact a local veterans, boy scouts, or mail the flag to Flag Keepers:

Source: http://www.flagkeepers.org/FlagDisposalFees.asp

Costs $5 for full-size flags (3'x5' or larger), otherwise its free.

Here is an example of a Flag Disposal Ceremony:

John McCain has voted consistently to increase funding for veterans' benefits, recognizing that the people who serve our country should get priority over the disgraceful amounts of spending on corporate subsidies and wasteful pork barrel spending. He also pushed for various initiatives to ensure that veterans who are eligible for benefits know what they are entitled to and have the resources to obtain their benefits.
Is Veterans for McCain just telling us blatant lies? I will have to see why they would make such a statement. I'll start by looking at his entire voting record. Pork is often attached to those bills bills because a vote against the added pork is no doubt a vote against wounded vets. Ugly politics is ugly.

I guess all injured troops need is a visit in the hospital.

I didn't know it was that simple, a simple visit will heal their wounds, ease their pain and give them all the help they will ever need.  McCain is the messiah.

Moron, I was referring to the day Obama didn't bother visiting the injured when he took his middle east trip a few months ago, he was going to but he couldn't bring anyone with him so he decided not to. And a simple visit does give a moral boost for you information, refusing not to visit is disrespectful.

Same, although I say that is a rather terrible comparison/example.

Disposing of used flags that are in surplus is quite a different matter from disposing of or destroying a holy text in a malicious and intentionally debasing way. A bunch of politicians throwing away flags after a convention which were leftover and had served their purpose is a completely different matter from burning/desecrating a religious text just because it is the book of your 'enemy'; in the faction/military sense and the religious sense.

Although I personally could care a lot less if someone wants to burn a Bible or burn any other text. It's just a mass-produced book- not as if each and every one is blessed by a clergyman and descended to Earth from the Heavens.

Of course it's just paper but that's such an abstract and out-of-context reference, your argument holds no weight

I see your point but I don't really see what you're getting at by comparing binning used flags to burning the sacred texts of your wartime enemy.

Both are symbolic, both are important to the people under it... but throwing away surplus flags for the very reason that they're in excess and/or used is different to burning a book because you resent the follower or religion.

you keep saying used flags.  there are laws in this country for it.

and paper cant be sacred.  its made in a mill and mass produced.  how is that sacred right?

and who said burning it because of resent.  i just said its ok to burn it because its just paper.  stop trying to draw your own conclusions to make it sound better.

and i am not talking about the people throwing it away.  GET THAT THRU YOUR SKULL MAN.  I am tallking about the people who just call it piece of cloth.  maybe if you understand what i am saying, it would be better.
