So after being with Nvidia since I began gaming, I got a ATI 4870, Because I was looking for a new card to replace my 8800GTS.

I love it! I found out how to manually edit the fan speed. So I put it to 38% and I now idle at 39-42 degrees. And the highest I got it after 3 hours of gaming was 59.

Went from 9000 to 11600 in 3dmark06.

Very muchly recommend ATI for people not aware that ATI are pro right now.

11600 is pretty low. What CPU do you have?

That card should score over 13k

I get over 17k with my q6600 and 4870. You should try the ASUS TOP BIOS on it, fixed the fan speed issues and allows you to do upto 900mhz in CCC . Wicked card, pity it doesn't fold very well.

Would going from 3.0 ghz to say 3.2 - 3.3 give me a big boost in 3dmark?

It's a solid card but for a moment there I thought you were bragging up ATI, when in my opinion both of them are pretty equal in terms of performance right about now. Both have good mid-range cards and solid DX10.1 cards, as well as the insane 4x 9800GX2 style cards that only the filthily rich and insanely foolish will buy.

I'm glad for ATI because they were my original choice of graphics card, I remember I rode my X800 and my X1900XT for a long time! Plus Nvidia have held the (boring) monopoly with the 8800GTX/Ultra for far too long, great to see some genuine competition and advancement.

A nice upgrade anyway, can't criticize that Enjoy the new eye-candy and the sexy framerates.

same got my 4870 a week ago, awesome huh?

Took me a while to set it up and edit fan speeds, idles at 39C and 55C under full load.

Astounding performance for the price tag.

More like AMD rocks Intel because you went from a P4 to a Phenom. Fits better to the context.

I'm overclocking my CPU just now in little parts. At 3.25 ish now. And getting 59 degrees when using Orthos.

Wonder if i'll get to 3.5
