I watched it yesterday, after reading tons of praise from just about every horror movie-related hit on Google. I acquired it, and watched it. Except for a little jump or two, I didn't find it particularly scary. Anyone here agree/disagree?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Ugh I would never watch the Ring because everyone says it's such a scary movie.  The Exorcist...maybe.

The book Carrie is absolutely anything but horrific, it's actually quite sad.  Anyone see the movie?  Can't be that scary.

I didn't really find the Exorcist very scary. For the time back then, I am sure it was a pretty good thriller movie, though. Maybe not scary, but certainly a good thriller.

I always thought The Ring was dumb. Fell asleep during The Exorcist (though I'd had hardly any sleep, but I saw most of it), The Ring, and The Ring 2. I don't even remember much of the Ring movies - just that they were not in the least bit interesting.

Yeah, back when it was made it was considered pretty scary and controversial.

These days though it is nothing on modern horror/slasher/gore-porn movies.

I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a scary movie. horror, maybe, if you define horror as gore and sick and twisted. its too damn predictable and too damn hard to write something scary. the closest thing to scary is the surprise element, a la doom III.

Horror movies are usually the entire opposite of scary, rather they are pretty funny because of how poorly they are made. Almost every horror movie I've ever seen has a bunch of dumbasses in it. I mean seriously...

I've seen some good suspenseful movies, but nothing that really scared me.

I don't watch much horror movies though, usually the plot is so fucking stupid that I can't even stand to watch the trailer.

The one movie that was just utterly awful was hostel. TBH, the main characters usually are people we are supposed to feal a sense of carring for... but a bunch of teenage retards banging hookers then getting kidnapped to me seems like karma. It wasn't scary, just gross.

At the time it was released, you would have pissed your pants watching it ... but now, our society has become desensitized to such graphic stuff and it is so commonplace that it doesn't have the same shock value.

They weren't hookers, not that it would be karma to get tortured to death for banging any chick...

The Alien moves were are sci fi but they were pretty scary when I was younger.

The Alien movies might have been scary them, but not now.

Now in terms of how we've aged or what?

I don't find anything on a screen scary anymore tbh...

now in terms of...i don't know, i would say CGI, but i know that's not it.  classics are classics, but newer movies always seem more real to me if you know what i'm saying.

Maybe, I just watched "The Outpost" which contained no CGI and it was a tad scary.

I haven't seen the Exorcist yet, but you have to keep the times it was released in mind. 10, 20, 30 years ago, things were much different than they were now. When the Exorcist was released, not many people had seen that kind of shit before. Nowadays, with massively growing Internet and other media, something that was appalling, gross, horrific, disturbing years or decades ago is nothing compared to today.

And in 10, 20, 30 years from now, our kids and grandkids will look back on some of the movies we watched and thought they were way tame.
