I recieved an e.mail from our GameServer provider last night stating that they'd been rather bluntly informed by EA that no one is allowed to FTP access to any folders on a ranked server.

So what do you think this means? New patch incoming soon? New solutions to combat cheating?

(I wasn't entirley sure where to post this but i think its worthy of general BF2 discussion, if its posted elsewhere/been discussed then please delete/lock.)

Sounds kinda stupid to me. How are people supposed to set up BattleRecorder or stream PB/PBBans/ without ftp'ing into the server

Nothing new. EA just wants to make sure, that no one modifys their stats system. And you are still allowed to gain access to pb related files.

I have no exact details, i was just informed about the restriction on FTP access, no idea about viewing PB screenshots either.

As i said: it´s nothing new. Our GSP told us month ago, when we asked for FTP Access...

Same here; they will give you limited access for PB files etc, but no direct access.

Nothing new.

Actually, I remember having this discussion with BF2s's GSP provider over a year ago ... for a ranked server, EA has never wanted full FTP access.  So, I would guess that the OP's provider was in violation of this policy and had to make a correction.

And, yeah, you can still access game files via the GSP's interface, but just not using FTP.

To prevent things like the stats hackers a couple of months ago, as already mentioned.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
