And this has happened with other iTunes updates as well. Dunno what's going on.

Whenever I try to download directly, it says "errors in download". So, I download it manually from Apple's site...and yet I get this:

Yeah, especially because I can't update my iPhone to 2.1 without iTunes 8.0.

I installed it on Vista just now and it works fine...
EDIT: But this was using Apple Software Update, I did not download it from their website.

unfortunately I'm reformatting my HDD with Vista on it, so I'll be needing to use the XP version. To be honest, though, I don't like the new version. At least not yet anyway; I'm sure it'll take some getting used to. And the whole "Genius" thing? No thanks. I'd rather listen to Pandora or Last.fm radio instead of seeing a cover-up for advertising. Plus, I'm extremely reluctant to upgrade now that I got my current version working fine without any errors (stupid XP 64-bit).

That's not what I've heard. I've heard it sucks from many people on the iTunes forums on Apple.com. But, I need it to get 2.1.

Try using the Apple Software Update thingy. I used it to install it on Vista x64 and it worked fine.

I uninstalled the two Apple programs that were left in the Install/Uninstall list and tried installing it again and it worked. :S

Lol iTunes.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

No no, I know. I've had this problem before, as I said.

However, it all works now (so far). Genius feature's pretty cool, I guess.

DO NOT install iTunes 8 if you have an iPod Touch and Vista.  it has been causing BSODs every time a user connects their iPod to the computer.

as for your problem, idk

The fun thing is, that the 'shit' Apple produces is more compatible with Windows, than the shit Microsoft produces is compatible with OS X.

iTunes 8.0 gave me no trouble (iMac running XP in bootcamp). Try removing, iTunes including QT. Restart and reinstall.

Because no one cares about OS X.

Yeah, I've got to say I laughed too when Office was ported to Apple systems.

Probably not for the same reason though.

Try to close xfire, since there is a .dll xfire uses that conflicts.

Worked for me in previous itunes installs.

Stop turning everything into an OS war. Latest version of iTunes sucks, live with it. No one has insulted your mother, stop getting so offended.
