DO NOT install iTunes 8 if you have an iPod Touch and Vista.  it has been causing BSODs every time a user connects their iPod to the computer.

as for your problem, idk
I don't.

But now apparentely, my iPhone can't connect. Says I need to DL 64 bit iTunes...which I did.

Fucking fix your shit, Apple.
The fun thing is, that the 'shit' Apple produces is more compatible with Windows, than the shit Microsoft produces is compatible with OS X.

iTunes 8.0 gave me no trouble (iMac running XP in bootcamp). Try removing, iTunes including QT. Restart and reinstall.
I don't give a 'shit'. I want Apple to fix it. That's all.

@ iTunes 8.

Can trigger all sorts of faults in 10.5. Particularly in Mac Pro hardware. I hear it can cause the syslogd and spotlight indexing issues that plague 10.5

Not worth it. I don't like 8.0

The older version was easier to use IMO.

Haha, okay - so get this. The problem with iTunes 8 on Vista 64 and 32 bit versions was the Apple Mobile Device Support. So, you uninstalled that and uninstalled iTunes and you're good....if you don't have an iPhone. So, I figured out what the problem is - iTunes 8's installer crashes when it tries to reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Support!

Good fucking game, Apple. Fix your fucking shit. At this point, MS is more reliable than you.

Aside from GaiPods/Phones/Touches and the "music store", what's the point of iTunes?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I actually like the interface, I dunno, the only iPod I have is a Shuffle which I sync to my Mac anyways, but every time I reformat I install iTunes,

I guess it sorta grew on me.

I tried switching to Winamp, FooBar, SongBird, MediaMonkey, etc etc, but every time I ended up going back to iTunes.

BTW, Mine too broke with V8, the installer Crashed saying it can;t install, and now when I launch(7 still) it says that teh drivers didn't load properly CD burning may be disabled, it launches, but it's a pain.

I still don't get why you would use iTunes... Winamp if you need iPod support. Heck, WMP is better than iTunes.

Winamp doesn't work with iPhones...and I can't download applications for it and stuff with Winamp.

As TheDonkey said, I've tried switching away from iTunes. I've gone back every time. iTunes is just much cleaner and easier to use imo.

Everything before iTunes 8, that is.

Sounds like you didn't have problems before 8, but a lot of people did. 6 and 7 were a bitch to install on my P4 system for some reason. I actually had a folder on my backup drive dedicated to fixing the same error I'd get even off of a fresh reformat with SP2 (at the time, latest) and updates.

But they got better for other bugs, eventually. It's like when an OS is released there are bugs for a year, but for Apple that bar is lowered to apps.

I had humongous problems with 7.6 or 7.7, can't remember which.  Updating, installing, and uninstalling all were nightmares.  But once I got it working and before the problems, iTunes has been a very good program to me.

Yeah, usually things work okay after you thwack away at a forest of problems getting it to work okay.

Unless you have an iPod, it's not with the bullshit.

Microsoft hardly cares about the products they make for minority of computer users. For apple though, this is totally different. The vast majority of their iTunes-requiring-product users use windows.

Apple is in no way superior company compared to Microsoft. Live with it.

They were a bitch to install too, but once they were working, they were fine. I could connect to everything, music worked, and everything was fine.

Now, iTunes 8 is working, but it won't connect to my iPhone because the fucking installer crashes when it tries to install the Mobile Device Support program which allows me to sync my iPhone. It still installs iTunes, but won't install that program.

So, for now, I can't sync my iPhone. I can still charge it - just not sync it.

So you can't get normal music files on an Iphone just Itunes music?

You can use any unprotected MP3, AIFF, WAV, MP4, AAC and Apple's lossless codec.

What you get from the iTunes store are protected AAC files if I remember it right. Those cannot be used by anything but iTunes (and Apple devices) with your user name and password.

WMA can not be directly used, but iTunes can transcode it to another format.

Anything you can get working in iTunes (as stock) will work on an iPod/Phone/Rack.

I think I have 7.1 or something, I found a version with no problems and stuck with it.  I was about to D/L the newest version, glad I didn't.

Update: Got everything working. Had to make a test account with admin rights and install it on there. The install carried over to my main account and now it works fine. Just finished installed iPhone 2.1 Firmware.

I know that good code, or good work on software tends to actually work rather than everytime I close it itunes locks up, and freezes up every hour, and leaks memory, and doesnt make my library disappear every once in a while.

I know that good code works, that updates actually fix issues, and the fact that iTunes works basically flawlessly on Macs (or so I hear) means that Apple just doesnt give a fuck about everybody who doesnt want to cough up 2 grand for an overpriced computer.

I would also expect them to find out why I have to delete my applications and install them from my computer just to get them working rather than to be able to update without any issues, among various other problems. This has been happening since the App Store was released.

Thats about what I know.
