What is teamspeak and can anybody tell me the difference between in game voip.
team speak is way better. U dont need to push a button to speak to anyone. U can chat with ppl who arent even in the room. basiaclly u can talk to anyone in the channel with out a prob.
Teamspeak is a great piece of software, much better than ingame VOIP for a few reasons.
1. Much improved sound quality, much better than anything i've ever seen.
2. You can set up multiple channels and sub channels so that people playing different games don't have to listen to other people.
3. You can send messages to one person, multiple people or everyone, you can post web links in it and a few other things aswell.
4. Teamspeak has an option to record what other people say, and save to hard disk.
5. There is also an auto reconnect feature that reconnects you to the server if for any reason you get disconnected, so if your playing a game you don't have to alt&tab out to reconnect.
Of course all these things depend on what the admin decides to let you have access to. I'm currently part of a clan (not a bf2 clan) and we have a teamspeak server, and we love it because its much better than other software like ventrilo and stuff like that.
Quick explanation of how our server works, just to give you an idea:
- We have multiple channels for different games (COD2, BF2, Red Orchestra, MOHAA), and we also have a chat channel, away channel, private channel (password protected channel) and an entrance lobby.
- We have a few server admins that get full access to the teamspeak server and can kick/ban people, or change the name of channels or if they want to they can give others more admin rights (or take them away).
- Each channel has a channel admin, who have all the rights a server admin has except they only have the rights in that one channel rather than the whole server.
- Normal Users (Me) who have restricted access to certain things. Normal users get to switch to any channel they like, but can't alter anything about the channel or kick any people from it. Normal users can also only send messages directly to one other person at a time, and cannot send a message to everyone.
Like i said this is only how our admins set up our server and other servers will be slightly different, but at least you get an idea of some of the things that you can do.
Thats a pretty detailed description of how teamspeak works, so if you feel that you want to download the client here is link for you http://www.goteamspeak.com
Hope this info helps you out.

So am I correct in saying that the group of four players that I play with could use this to speak to each other on any server we may be playing on. We seem to spend a lot of time looking for servers with space for four players and voip enabled.
Where can I get teamspeak from and does it cost money to use. It would be great to be able to jump on any server and still have the capability to talk to my sqaud mates even when voip is not enabled.

the client is free to use, but you need a server to connect to and the servers aren't free. Our server came with the server we purchased for one of the games we play and that is from gameservers.net.
You can download teamspeak from teh link in my previous post, but if you have nothing to connect to then you can't use it.
