Our beloved glorious overlord Gordon Brown sits today with mutineers on his benches.

http://news.uk.msn.com/Article.aspx?cp- … id=9583796

MSN wrote:

Moves to force Gordon Brown from office were gathering pace as more Labour MPs criticised his performance and demanded he face a leadership contest this autumn.

One leading rebel claimed the majority of Labour MPs wanted a challenge to the Prime Minister and that one was now inevitable.

While the number of MPs publicly calling for a contest remained small, the forceful interventions of more former ministers increased the momentum of an apparent plot.

All eyes are now on the Cabinet as those involved in the moves against Mr Brown hope for a high-ranking minister to join them in their stand.

The crisis engulfing the premier, which comes ahead of Labour's annual conference next weekend, escalated on Saturday with the sacking of a second Labour figure in as many days.

Joan Ryan was dismissed as Labour's vice chairman and Mr Brown's envoy to Cyprus for calling for a leadership election.

On Friday, assistant whip Siobhain McDonagh lost her job after making the same demand.

Former minister Fiona Mactaggart has become the latest MP to publicly call for a change of leadership.

"I think we should give a chance to someone else to take over - I really do," she said in an interview with BBC1's Politics Show. "The problem that I see is a lack of clarity about our ambitions for Britain."

Another former minister, George Howarth, also urged Mr Brown to "give somebody else a chance" if he could not recapture the public's trust urgently. And Graham Stringer, a Labour backbencher, claimed that most of his colleagues agreed that the Prime Minister should face a contest.
Can Mr.Brown weather this storm?

I certainly hope not.

If Brown goes there's a few other faces they could do with being shown the door also. I hope the Labour party is able to unify after he leaves.

Who's the (realistic) alternative?

Please don't say Cameron.

This is a Labour leadership problem, they're not calling for a general election. Cameron can't be the alternate leader for Labour since he's already the leader of a quite large opposing party

I have fuck all idea who in the Labour party could replace him, if he does go and someone does replace him as leader, then they better call a general election otherwise that would be the second time that Labour have brought in a new PM without a general election.

Well no shit.

What I was implying was that if Brown is ousted, there's no one else to step up to the leadership plate. Labour is a party of nobodies right now, and contrary to popular belief Brown probably is the most educated, qualified and competent person for the job; unless of course you want to look at the Conservatives or Lib Dems .

If you're looking for an educated, qualified and competent person than I don't think you can look at the BNP. They may have a few good policies but then again so did the Nazi party, so did Saddams party and so does Kim Jong Il's party! That doesn't make them the right choice

I really hope you don't. If their anything near as bad as Australia's conservatives, you'll be in some big trouble.

Who do you vote for if you want to make a protest vote against Labour, but not put a vote towards the Conservatives?

Aussies will always vote for the Greens (which are labor-esque but more left leaning, protect the environment) because the preference deals usually mean the Green vote results in a Labor government anyway, but it still gives the bastards a clear message that we aren't happy with them. It also says a lot about our conservatives, who when even Labor are struggling are considered absolutely unelectable.

Not sure if this is similar in Britain however.

No it's totally different. I've seen your parties, it doesn't even make sense. Your Liberal party is infact your right-wing Conservative party.

Our Conservative party aren't that Right Wing, more common sense/center-right

I know their name doesn't make much sense, but it goes down to the fact we pretty much only have 2 major parties, the others all become affiliated with one or the other - otherwise they face extinction.

We used to have a federal Democrat party, but after the last election with such poor results they had to disband with no single member elected for Parliament. lol

Tbh I don't think any of the partys are fit to laed, none of them actually seem to give a shit what the people want.

But im definately not voting labour if a general election happens and tbh it should happen, Brown can fuck right off.

Thats what I say.  Currently no party deserves my vote, so as it stands I won't be voting in the next General Election.

Don't complain then when the next party that stumbles into power messes things up .

I'm voting for the formation of a spiritually-governed state based on the foundations of pantheism. And if I don't get it by 2012 I will kill myself.

Milliband.

I do hope Labour get their shit together, if the conservatives win I'm off to Canada.

BNP are focussing more on being closer to the general opinions and less on extremism. Though their name is ruined forever, they should just get their members to leave and form under a new name with the same strong policy's. And keep out any blatant racists and bigots.

What's wrong with the Conservative party? They're not that much a bunch of goons. They seem to be different than what they were in the 90's and before.

Jump into the pool, Brits...the water's warm.

Good to see it's not just the US that has shit for choices for national leaders.

Must be why they're so interested in our elections....I keed, I keed.

Regardless, that doesn't make the lack of quality on both sides (that evil two party system) any different.

no, youre right.  I finally realized the reason so many euros bash the US is because it lets them feel like Americans, even if its just a taste.

It's more like 3 party here, the Liberal Democrats are a proper party but with a very small chance of winning any power on a national scale. It's like 40 Labour, 30 Conservative, 15 Lib dem and 15% mixed. As an example. Those aren't real figures.
