are amazing. especially during welcome week when you can get blitzed or blazed or tipsy or drunk or whatever without cops crawling all over the place. i'm posting this because i know there's a lot of freshmen on this forum, so yeah. if your school just started, find the frat row, say you're pledging, and get drunk. if you're in NY or CA, look for AEPi.

partying with 500 people and 3 kegs is a life experience all teens need.

Yeah, then you realize that places with that many people, and that much beer, that AREN'T a frat house can be so much better.

Plenty of people I knew from highschool who joined frats got sucked in by the same allure of being able to party with tons of people, without really knowing many people at your school...however, if you actually JOIN a fraternity, be prepared to clean shit up and drive other drunk-ass people around all night. Then, by the time you're actually in the fraternity and above the more menial shit, you've seen a lot of these parties and they're no longer as cool as they used to be. It becomes more of an issue of going to places with people you like/relate to/etc. than of wanting to go to the place with the most people packed in.

Not to rain on your parade, I'm sure you'll have lots of fun, but frat parties are just the tip of the iceberg once you move on to college. I went to school at Mizzou (where theres about 25,000 students in a town of 100,000 permanent residents...), and the downtown bar & music scene was better than any frat party ever was...then all you have to worry about is getting into places (until you turn 21), which I found out was not typically that difficult if you're in a "college town".

You have a better chance in Wisconsin, hell they even have a law for people to legally drink at 18 or older as long as you are under parental supervision(there's ya designated driver unless one of your parents is drinking too)

Yeah, didn't realize you were in Cali (even though you allude to CA/NY...)

I've been out there a few times, and it definitely doesn't seem like a state where you want to go around punk in drublic too often. Everyone out there indicated that cops are pretty f'ing strict. Twice I saw cops inspecting someone's car to see if they had illegal modifications...I don't think I've ever heard of someone I know in Missouri getting checked for shit like that, except illegal window tinting which is immediately obvious to any cops passing by.

All I can say is enjoy your freshmen year, its one of those once in a lifetime things you have to enjoy to its fullest...you may never have a better opportunity to make stupid decisions and love every minute of it.

No, frat parties suck. They're lame and stupid. You can drink anywhere and not get busted by cops. Frat parties are just massive sausage fests, and though the few girls that are there are super hot, they're mostly ditzes with the entire alphabet of STDs, and they're taken by 5 other guys anyway.

And to ^, yeah cops in CA are unnecessarily strict, they're total pricks. But fortunately in college towns (like here in Westwood where people are going to do it anyway) the po-po don't do anything too serious at all.

EDIT: And I see the post was made 2 hours ago, so that's around midnight... did you really just get back from a frat party at midnight? From one college student to another, please go somewhere else and party, you'll enjoy it sooooooooo much more! And with regards to being unable to find alcohol: believe me, you'll find a way. Friends will know friends, or you can befriend an upper classman who's old enough, stuff like that. If you give them money, I'm sure they'd love to buy shit for you. We were all underage at some point, and luckily we all had friends that were 21+ and would get stuff for us, so now we return the favor to the new kids. It's like a thing that gets passed down from generation to generation...

Yeah, frat parties suck, but I have to admit that the first several parties I went to my freshman year were just that....

Once I got to know some people in the dorms and around campus it was either bars, (non-frat)house parties or dorm-room madness (we once filled a 40 gallon trashcan with beercans in one night, just from the 10 or so people sandwiched into my dorm room, with the help of a beer-bong...)

You euro guys have the luxury of lower drinking ages and more lenient club admittance, at least from what I could tell from when I visited London and Paris...I'm sure the college/university experience is a little different over there, but here, the first year is usually full of a lot of decadent debauchery (at least for us people who didn't graduate magna cum laude).

I'd also be interested to know what English fraternity parties are like...I'm assuming they exist...

Nope. We don't do frat parties. Just parties. There are various groups at unis who tend to have big nights out, like the Sportsfed at my old uni, I got dragged out on a lot of their crazy nights out because I lived with a load of the rugby team (well, one in my house, 3 practically next door - so we all did a lot of drinking together).
