So I am playing today and my system crashes. Hard crash to reboot.
I am up and running and start up BF2 and now my account is not visible. WTF I think. Fearing the worst I go to retrieve my account and with luck It is still there. So I log on, and now all of my favorites are gone, and the filter system is acting strange. It won't let me refrsh when I type in key words. It is just blank. It refreshes properly when I go into multiplayer for the first time but that is about it.

when the system crashed it cleared out ur save data. happens with all games at one point or another if your prone to crashing..... it wont hurt your game itself u just have to setup all that crap again. personally i keep a copy of the settings in the same folder just renamed as 10001 instead of 0001

That is a good idea. I will have to do that. What a PITA to try and find all my "regulars" over again.
I have a sneaky suspicion that my CPU is causing my crashing issues. It does not happen often, but it does happen sometimes. I am running a P4 2.8E@3.2  full load temp at 53C. I think it is time for a HSF.

So I guess that my P4 LGA775 3.4 GHz running at 69 C while running BF2 is not a good thing ?

I am no expert on CPU-temps but I seem to recall hearing that Intel CPU's generally get more hot than AMD CPU's. I could be wrong but I have seen Intell CPU's run at temps up to 70 degrees before without problems at all. My AMD CPU would jump up and bite me in the ass if I tried to run it that hot. 50-55 degrees max.

Certain CPUs run at high temps. My P4 3.4 HT  runs BF2 at 55C and thats said to be normal. As for the refreshing thing, the same happens to me and I have no idea why. Does anyone?

Ok so I got a new HSF yesterday. The one I have been looking at buying for about 2 months now.  Now all I have to do is disassemble my rig, install the new HSF and reassemble my rig. What a PITA it will be. I think I will have to support my HFS from the chassis so it does not put to much of a lateral load on the MB.

Anyway Here is the beast I am using.

Thermaltake Big Typhoon.  Overall 122mm X 122mm X 128mm

Let the good times roll!

Well I got the new HSF installed. While the new data is not earth shattering to the degree that  some claim. One person claimed a 25C reduction in temp. I certainly got my moneys worth. It was a bit of a time consuming install, it was not to bad. It did give me the chance to remove a couple of fans that really did not do much, and clean things up a bit.

I did test before and after.

Stock Intel HSF
idle:32c
Full load 57c

Big Typhoon @ 1100rpm's
Idle: 32c
Full Load: 44c

If I turn all my fans up to max I can get the full load down to 42c.

Worth the Money. With that in mind I did add a zip tie to the fan grate to secure it around the cross bar to reduce some of the weight related stress off the MB.  It does not look to bad, anyway.

If anyone is interested I can post pics later.
