Is this a violation of someone's civil rights?  Is it a right to get welfare or can government put a requirement such as this on a welfare applicant?

Additionally, if you're on welfare are you unfit to be a parent?  Does that mean your children should be wards of the state?

Too much to ask for abortion when pregnant while on welfare?

Same question.

They are not being forced to sterilization...they can choose not to accept money from welfare.  I'm just saying if they opt-into the program could we have that mandate?

If you want your country to be viewed even more dimly by the rest of the developed world, yes you could.

Governments can do anything they want. That doesn't mean that they should.

I see your point but...I think it's better to stick with limiting the amount of money you get as you have more kids...aka scaling it down.

At that point however, the government is involved in family planning.  Bad idea.

But why stop at just welfare?  Ever seen Gattaca?  Perhaps we can kill off all the handicapped and old people too.  j/k

Congress is making it so you can now claim $7,000 / kid now.  So not only you get more money from welfare per kid, you get to deduct even more.

I'll assume that its not a point really since if you're on welfare you probably are already qualified for the Bill Clinton Earned Taxed Credit.

Actually I agree, the govt. should not get involved in peoples personal decisions, that should also include having to get involved in paying for them either.

Maybe we should go the Chicom way where people need written permission to have children and the unauthorized ones can be aborted during birth...  Would that make the rest of the world happy?

HA!  Just a bit jaded by the "world hate the US" crowd.  It wouldn't matter what polices we would enact/follow.  They would still hate US.  They also tend to be the first to cry for help from US.

And those sinister left-handers. And red-heads. And people with webbed-toes. And what about green-eyes. Or the ability to roll your R's.

I believe this is called Eugenics.

Don't force people to become sterile in order to take the money, take welfare away from those who abuse it by having more children.

I think we should require sterilization for the people that drain the most dollars and resources from society...guess who that would be?

hint: it's the top 1%

I have no problem with forced birth control while people are living on welfare.  It's temporary and when they are financially independent they can go back to breading like roaches.

Looks like the birth control act is right around the corner ... to bad it wasn't amended earlier ...

Why is it that every two months or so someone here proposes some sort of eugenics/human rights violation as a "solution" to the global population? (I think the economy is a new twist, so you get 500 Who's Line points)

If you're currently on welfare with no children an accidentally get someone pregnant then I believe the amount you obtain on welfare should be deducted or wavered void entirely as a penalty for negligence by becoming a liability and a means of dependency for federal spending.
Welfare should be a temporary cushion to put you back on your own feet.
If you don't use it for that intention then you should not be getting it.  Period.

Rape victims with children and mothers on their own, depending on reasonable circumstances, are a separate issue.  I understand that some people who are dependent on welfare were placed in that tough position.  A rape victim who can't support a child but doesn't want an abortion would be a reasonable case.  However, someone who's dependent and got into that situation based on gross negligence and is abusing the system, has no damn excuse.
