Didnt put this in BF2 help because not as many people would read it

Specs:

XP Pro 32 bit SP2
AMD x2 5200+ Brisbane 2.7Ghz
ECS GeForce 6100PM-M2 mobo
2 gigs of Crucial Ballistix 800MHz RAM (I believe the timings are 4-4-4-12)
WD 160 gig 7200 RPM 8MB cache 3gb/s
PNY 8800GT 512MB
Antec Basiq 500W

Everything is at stock speed. I know the mobo and PSU are less than optimal, but I know they work perfectly fine because all of my other games run as they should. I have searched for the past 3 days to find anyone else with this problem/solution, but only found people getting low FPS with an 8800 when they were running a P4 or less. The card is not faulty, as I can get better and more consistent performance in new games. Temps are mostly in the normal range (CPU is a little warm, but again, I get better performance in more demanding games, even more CPU intensive ones like CSS). Also have the latest drivers

BF2 video settings are all high except lighting and dynamic shadows, and 4xAA. Audio is set to software and high. I have tried turning off AA along with a few other video settings, turning EAX on and off, setting audio to hardware and medium with no FPS improvement. Also tried deleting the cache and recently, the whole BF2 folder in My Documents. I also tried turning off useless background shit in windows, and that didnt help at all.

Anyone have any ideas? Ive considered reformat, but I reeeaaallly dont want to unless its the last resort, I JUST got done setting everything up the way I want it

Isn't that pretty good FPS for having AA on and most settings on high? I would recommend using the hardware setting for audio in BF2 tho, its such an improvement over software imo.

Can i ask tho, do you play BF2 on high to look at nice graphics? (cos it does look nice on high ). I ask due to having an opinion that BF2 plays much better online with video settings around the medium range. Perhaps pull the settings back and see what kinda results you get then? (I have a recommendation on settings if you wish to try them).

Out of interest, whats your connection settings at on BF2? Cable/256 or T1/Lan?

Yeah sure, that's good FPS...3 years ago.

He should be getting more than that with those specs.

Try new drivers.

That seems low. What res are you running?

XP Pro 32 bit. Will reinstall if no one can think of anything else to try... I would just do it now but I have to dig for the discs and key

Its a hell of an improvement on what I used to play, but with my setup I know I should be kicking the piss out of BF2. I have everything high except lighting so I can see more. Connections are set to T1/LAN (do they even change anything?)

Durr, forgot to put res in OP. 1024x758@85 Hz

While 80-40 is perfectly playable, consistent high FPS is just so nice. Heres a pic of FPS meter on 64 player Wake while looking at the SKY! The FPS actually went down while looking skyward

wow, that is way too low. I'd start by reinstalling the graphics driver. Your GPU and CPU should easily drive BF2 at 100fps minimum at those settings

If BF2 has an FPS cap like a lot of other games, make sure it's disabled.  Also disable vertical sync.

fps cap is at 100. Vsync should keep the FPS glued at 85fps for his hardware instead of jumping around.

No vsync. I also turned the FPS cap off to see if that would do anything (game.lockfps 0), and it didnt. I have an HP mx704 CRT, AFAIK it isnt a shitty CRT (well, atleast as non-shitty as CRTs can get ). Even if it was, how would that affect FPS count in a game?

Going to reinstall drivers, Ill edit this when its done

Monitor only supporting low refresh rate + vsync = low fps.

Make sure that the PCI-E link is set to x16 and not anything else. I got similar issues with my 7600GS a while ago, and it turned out the PCI-E was on x1.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Just got done reinstalling the nVidia drivers, no luck. Yes, I did use a driver cleaner

Note I said no vsync

Trying that...

EDIT: Maybe Im an idiot, but I didnt see anything in the BIOS about PCIE links. I did the Ctrl+F1 trick too. I did however see PCIE Clock in the BIOS and it was at 100 MHz, but I assume thats something different?

Try downloading GPU-z and making sure your clock speeds and other things are set correctly. It may seem weird, but when I had my x1950XT, I would run ATI Tray Tools to display my temps in-game, and apparently (even with overclocking disabled) it turned my clocks down a lot for some reason.

do you have EAX sound or VOIP turned on... if so try with those turned off... also delete the shaders folder in mydocuments/bf2/
when you restart it will rebuild the shader cache... also the amd 5200 could be the bottleneck... a new proc could keep the fps high consistently...

also what size and brand psu do you have... i had a cheap psu and it created all kinds of weird symtoms... bought a 650 watt antec with 3 12 volt rails and no more weird issues... psu is the most important thing in your computer...

I'm thinking it might be the processor, as I ran bf2 back in my old rig (E6300, 2gb, 8800GTS 512) with all high, 8x aa and forced res at 1680x1050 at 85-90 fps. But, if all of your other games are running fine, Your best will probably be to re install bf2. At the very least clear your shader cache.

my opty 170 never had any problem driving BF2. It's not the CPU

This.

Unlock your FPS and see what you get.

Anyway, Catbox, I just tried turning off VOIP and EAX and it didnt do anything. Im fairly certain my PSU is fine for all my hardware, as I dont have any problems in more recent and power hungry games.

Sniper, already cleared the cache

PS: I just ran the stress test for HL2: Lost Coast at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and full HDR and scored 111 FPS... Going to try patching BF2 again, and if that doesnt work, time for a disc hunt

Mine was average 63 fps, 1900x1200, 2xAA everything on highest.

Specs:

3800+ x2
2gb crappy ddr(!) ram
8800gts 320mb

I would say there is something wrong with yours.
