I would have thought a 4850 would have raped his PSU, assuming it's a generic shitty one.
didn't even think about that tbh.  how about a link to your PSU, OP?
I have a feeling that it's a prebuilt. Probably around 18-ish amps on +12V.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Sounds like he bought an OEM, so I'm going to assume the PSU is amongst the worst you can get.

Don't waste money on a cheap card just because your PSU is holding you back. Save money and buy a PSU then buy a ATi HD4850 or 8800GT.

A 4670 is a very capable card. It'll do wonders for his current setup, for a very low price. It's more than twice as fast as an 8600GT.

HD4670 is a pretty leet card anyways. And he has a 3200 IGPU, so anything is really a great upgrade.
