Versailles wasn't compromise gone wrong. The Allies didn't compromise anything. They said fuck you, your never going to have to resources to start another war, and this is what we're doing.

Trade restrictions, taxes on what you import, we're taking land you claimed during the war, and then taking even more, we're banning your Fokker D7 from all airspace (latest WW1 aircraft that was really effective, the DVIII didn't make it past initial production).

Sorry, but the lack of compromise is how the Treaty of Versailles led to WW2.

The SAT doesn't grade you on accuracy; just how well you can use 'examples' to fit your point. The SAT essay is a worthless piece of crap, in honesty. Besides, you don't even need a 12 to get 800 on the writing section, as long as you are good at grammar.

If I remember the analysis in the book "What If" correctly, the roots for both WWI and WWII were laid during the Napoleonic Wars in the 19th century. The proximate cause, however, has to be the Versailles Treaty...or at least the German perception of it. That was what Hitler used to gain power and rally the people against the rest of Europe.
