I actually did that with a giant Death costume. The hood was two layered and had wires to support it and it draped over and you couldn't see a face at all, just shadow (think Emperor Palpatine, but no chin, either), but you could see the ground in front of you and enough in front of you to not run into things (just don't cross the street with the hood down).

But I set a bowl of candy at my feet and the robes covered me entirely, so I just sat at a nearby chair. Parents knew exactly what was going on (just that 6th sense thing, I suppose) but they got their kids to get candy even when the kids thought I was a person. But I just sat their perfectly still until they got their hand in the bowl and the moment they started to close their hand: RAAAAAAWWWRR!!!!!!!!!!!

Lot of wet underpants that night ... and a lot of parents on their knees in my lawn laughing.

I miss home a lot on Halloween - Austria sucks for Halloween.

My house? No.
