Give me a list of good songs/albums to download(I rather prefer albums as there are more songs to choose from).

and pm me any torrent links you have so the Nazis don't close my thread.

Listen and look at the track names.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Go here. It's not necessarily ranked how I would like it if I chose it myself, but these are my top albums, most of which are electronic. Browse through them, preview any songs that are top-played off each album, if you like what you hear then check out similar artists and albums.

So many techno/trance threads recently...

I hate to peddle a ubiquitously-known Forum maxim, but use the Search feature! I've responded myself in similar fashion to mtb0minime to at least 3-4 threads on electronic music with decent recommendations and long-lists of artists to check out, exercise some initiative!

Please don't listen to Basshunter. Worst. Music. Ever. It's guys like him that completely ruin the electronic music scene. It's so poppy and catchy and hooky that it brings in people who don't even like or know anything about electronic music and since all his songs sound the same, they assume all electronic music sounds the same.

I don't go to raves anymore because I'm sick of running into complete tards who say they only came because they like Basshunter and they heard that other trance music is played at raves. And then they pop 50 pills and collapse on a pile in the floor instead of actually enjoying the music and dancing their asses off.

Pendulum is really more D&B than techno. Their songs have a lot of contrast, and none of them are particularly long, something that has become a bit of a sign of electronic music: Tracks seem to never end. It's the kind of music you can listen to for hours and hours, you know.

Not long? What are you talking about? The average music track is 4 minutes long, the average Pendulum track is at least 6 or 7 minutes long..

But yeah, Propane Nightmares, Hold Your Colour, Slam, The Terminal and Through The Loop are all awesome Pendulum tracks.

You can listen to A State of Trance and then when you hear a song you like, look for it on the track list on the ASOT website.

OR

I was listening to the intro bit of an ASOT episode today and there was this album called "Sirens of the Sea" from Ocean Lab. Three songs with Justine Sweezack (I know I butchered that last name) singing - sounded fuckin awesome.

Ferry Corsten also has a radio show on Wednesday nights. Never listened to it, though.

I love BT for trance music, though. His "Emotional Technology" and "Movement In Still Life" albums rock. Those are quite old, though. But they still rock.

Why didn't you cross-out Pendulum as well then if those are your gripes? They're just as offensively shit and just as damaging to the genre that they mockingly-represent (being D&B, rather than 'Techno' or any other simulacrum of said-genre).

Oh and everyone really hates BT. What does the guy do that's so fantastic or spectacular? He celebrates himself as some sort of electronic genius or pioneer, but all of his releases are incredibly uninspiring.

Haha and what is Freezer on about? Some electronic albums (e.g. from genres such as glitch or minimalism) comprise of tracks no longer than 30-40 seconds long. What a ridiculous generalisation to make, don't try and sound knowledgable and authoritative on electronic music when you display such a pisspoor experience of said genre. Pendulum's songs have a "lot of contrast"? What, you mean their paint-by-numbers D&B composed to the same formula, with the same song structure, with the same fucking drum-samples in every single song? And their songs have contrast by inferred comparison to what, techno? I think there's a lot more variety in techno than those no-talent clowns from Australia could ever compose between them.

I'm not sure what subgenres these fall under, but here's the closest I come to techno:
Aphex Twin
Boards of Canada
James Figurine

I'd like to start listening to Figurine, because I like a couple of the songs I've heard from them. I'm also open to suggestions, especially ones that are similar to the three listed.
Remember Me As A Time Of Day

IDM, Ambient, Electronica (umbrella term, it's vague, but it works).

Aphex Twin only did a few techno singles, mainly for commission, other times for a laugh- stuff like Powerpill Pacman (under the GAK moniker).

Boards of Canada are not even remotely alike to the techno genre.

The concept of Nordic psytrance sort've makes me want to die.

Psytrance as a genre is cheesy as fuck, how can you say your (amateur) mixes far surpass techno as a genre? Infected Mushroom > Richie Hawtin?

I guess it makes sense that people who appreciate psytrance only do so when they're tanked up on drugs and hallucenogens.
