In the office where I work (IT) we have had a significantly higher failure rate for WD than Seagate, but these two are also the only brands we use.
What kind of drives were that? WD had a bad era around 2000-2002
Not sure exactly what model they were.  Just their standard drives, but I know they weren't that old.  In fact, we bought four WD1200JS drives about 18 months ago, just to have them on hand.  I had two that were DOA, and one fail within a week of being installed.  The fourth has been in use for about 3-4 months now, with no signs of issues, but 1 out of 4 isn't a very good record.  Now these drives may just have come from a batch that had issues, but...

Don't get me wrong, I've had Seagates fail, and I'm not saying we've had exceptionally high failure rates on drives, but of the drives we have had fail, the rate for WD drives is substantially higher.
