do you think i should do it?
i know i would like to play gears of war 2, dead space, left4dead and other great games that are coming out in near future.
some people have recommended PS3 but i think i will be putting too much money on a console that won't be much better than xbox360.
in general what i'm looking is:
-to play FPS game online
-play games that won't struggle because of minimum hardware(PC)
-decent gameplay
-good graphics

the reason i'm willing to move to console is because there are not any really good game out there, and game developers are always working on games for consoles, more money, it makes sense.
i'm almost made up my mind but i would like to hear from people who actually own xbox360.

EDIT: i think i post it on the wrong section.

Yeah, it's great. Besides that you have to pay $50 USD minimum a year to play with other people unlike other consoles and still don't have a browser, there are some great titles coming out and for a price of $200? Lucky you. I can't wait for Xmas because of all the great titles coming out that my parents are willing to buy me. Specifically three starting with the letter "F"...

I am on my second 360, and I recommend getting a PS3 instead. I always get the rings of death.

I don't have a 360, but a ps3. What exactly causes the red ring of death?

Considering if you went 360 degrees from a starting position, you'd be facing the starting position again...that GIF fails.

Don't listen to people telling you you'll get the RRoD. The newest chipset (Jasper) pretty much curtails any chance of getting an RRoD. And if by some reason you do, MS will fix your 360 and send it back to you promptly.

I've never gotten the RRoD and I've got a Dec. '06 model.

Yes, obviously I know who it was.

It's still a fail because it's referencing the joke "you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away!"

Who looks at something, does a spin and walks away?

meh, it's still stupid

I have both a PS3 and a 360 and I prefer the 360 by a little bit...the PS3 is good technology wise and it's nice to not have to pay for online, but 1) it's laggy as shit compared to XBL 2) XBL and it's interface > PSN in so many ways 3) Achievements omg <333 (and yes I know there's trophies, but Achievements are better since they add up to a total score

If you want something that does all that and isn't a pc you're out of luck.

You're wrong here... There are a lot more games for PC than any console out there, end of story. Not to mention that with emulators, you have more backwards compatibility with older consoles than the current gens do themselves. Even with an incredibly cheap computer you can play a lot more games than you can on a console. And if you're really looking for good graphics, PC is the only way to go.

On the other hand, if you have to get a console, my suggestion is the PS3. With all the addons you have to go out and buy in order to get your 360 functional, it is more expensive and a lot more hassle than a ps3. Not to mention that it still doesn't have a blu-ray drive, which is great if you ever want to watch movies in HD.

A lot of 360 guys will tell you XBL is a lot better than PSN, but there is really very little difference other than the price.

I read an article about Far Cry 2 stuttering on xboxs and having to load a lot more than PS3 or PC, and I've seen my friend's xbox lag every time he kills somebody in bioshock. The 360 cannot hold up to current games, so I doubt it will be able to deal with many upcoming games. PS3 is also getting a lot more exclusives lately. You say you're into shooters, well on PS3 Resistance 2 is either out or coming soon and I believe Killzone 2 will be out early next year. The upcoming/recent 360 releases would probably be Halo Wars (an RTS) and Gears 2 (a TPS) so the PS3 is probably more of what you're looking for.

Isn't the X360 a wee bit outdated?

I'd say PS3 tbh.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

maybe i'll get both but not at the same time, i have the money but i wont spend $400 on PS3 right now.
i mean i was thinking of upgrading my video card from 8800gts 320mb to Hd4850 but i'm going to wait for a little on that matter.
so i have about $400 dollars to spend right now, that's why i considered console.

i dont know, i'm not in a rush but i really need something different for now becuase bf2 is getting ridiculously old and worn out.

What, exactly? The wireless adapter? He can hook his 360 up to his PC or Laptop and use it as a wireless bridge...other than that, I don't see what else he would need to buy. Plus, even if he did go and buy the adapter, it's well worth the money and he could get it used on eBay for cheap.
A lot of 360 guys will tell you XBL is a lot better than PSN, but there is really very little difference other than the price.
That's something that can only be said from someone who doesn't own a 360 or hasn't had a lot of experience with both PSN and XBL. There is a substantial different between the two. I couldn't even get a connection with Heggs the other day (who lives in NY) on LBP. Took us like 15 tries and even then it was laggy as fuck. You know why you have to pay for XBL, right? With that money, Microsoft PAYS for the devs online capabilities...

For example, in CoD4 on the 360, MS hosts the servers and pays for them. They're stable, reliable and people get a pretty good connection constantly. In CoD4 on the PS3, IW has to pay and use money out of their pocket, and they're less reliable.

Not to mention the interactivity with XBL and the ability to interact with your friends, view their achievements, see what game someone's playing, etc is so much greater on the 360. Plus, with the NXE coming in a little over a week with the Netflix stuff, it'll be even more interactive.

It's 39 bucks for 14 months online. Really not that big of a deal and well worth it for my experiences.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Live-Mon … d_sim_vg_1

You get the 12 months, the bonus month, and the 1 month included with the actual console.

I read an article about Far Cry 2 stuttering on xboxs and having to load a lot more than PS3 or PC, and I've seen my friend's xbox lag every time he kills somebody in bioshock. Those are very, very selective problems and you know it. Those problems are not widespread and are the first I've heard of them. I've had NO framerate drops in graphically intensive games like Dead Space, Gears 2, etc.

And why didn't you mention Halo 3? It's just about the most popular shooter on the planet right now and still played by hundreds of thousands of people online.

lxcpikiman, I know I sound like a broken record, but this is coming from someone who has both consoles - get the 360 now and the PS3 at a later date if you really wish. Both have some excellent titles but IMO, the 360 has come out on top for me.

CoD: WaW is coming out soon (or is out?)  Maybe you should buy that for PC, and save your money for PC upgrades.  $200 could buy a nice new GFX card and/or PSU (If needed).

What's your current PC setup?

(BTW, if you're really into buying a console, PS3 is better IMO, only because of free online, trophies DO add up to a 'bigger score', PS3 users have 'levels', which is contrary to popular belief, and it's one of the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market.

TBH, it's your own decision for the console.  Whatever appeals to you the most, buy it.
