Well it depends on how you're going to carry around the pistol. If it's in the back of your jeans then you can fit anything there. Just be careful where you go with it there.

A M9 Berretta doesn't have enough stopping power if you ask me. I'd never be caught relying on one of those to put somebody down in one shot.

You might want to think about a Para Ordnance Warthog .45 14 round semi automatic pistol (I think it's 14 rounds, am I correct?). I've shot at least 100 guns in my 15 years of existance and my family is pro gun carrying. So I know what's a good gun for what and where to hide it.  My uncle carries a .357 Magnum 7 round revolver in a fanny pack

I want to find a way to carry around an M1911A1 Para Ordnance .45 14 round. I just don't know how easy it would be able to conceal. I don't like the small compact guns. Too small to fit in my hands.

a carry piece?

$1300, but it doesnt get much better than that for the money. reliable, accurate and put together by hand.

dont carry anywhere other than on your hip. (especially NOT a fanny pack!)
train train train on drawing and holstering...you need to be able to do it without looking. same with reloading...carrying is a whole different game than target shooting.
if it ever goes down, it happens in a blink of an eye and there is no room for error. you want all the odds in your favor, and training provides something to fall back on when everything is happening too fast to process.

i would invest in a .22 conversion kit as well to save money at the range. it only involves field stripping the gun to put the part on, and then you can train with .22s instead of .45s and save yourself a ton of money.

ill dive deeper into techniques when you decide on and get your gun.

Kimber or Les Bauer, target ready outta the box. H&K are good too but to find one reasonably priced is a long shot. The muzzle of a .45 is a awesome deterrent, on the business end it looks like a fucking cannon!

When I went to the range a few months back a guy had one and that thing was a fucking cannon, one shot everyone was looking. Also shot a HK416 and those are awesome too, little to no recoil but a $5k price tag makes Kevin a sad panda.

My dream pistol(other then .45s)
http://www.impactguns.com/store/3868929230.html
Less recoil then a 9mm and can penetrate body armor out to 100m

I really like the look of the Walther P99. In .40cal though. Not knowing much about guns, I have no idea if it's actually any good or not.

Those kel-tecs are supposed to be decent rifles.  I think they can take AR magazines, that's a bonus.  The only real problem I've heard of is the bipod changing the point of impact.

Sounds like a good trade.

Are you wanting to stay with 9mm for you carry pistol or move up to .40 or .45?

Are you planning on concealed or open carry.  It' not terribly difficult to conceal a full sized 1911 it just takes a little more effort than compact or subcompact handguns.

Concealed. I can't really see myself carrying an M9, let alone a full sized 1911. The compact 1911s are the perfect size IMO.

A normal, single stack, full sized 1911 is fairly thin and in the right holster isn't too difficult to conceal, much easier than the Beretta.  Even a used compact 1911 is gunna set you back a minimum of $700-900.  Don't overlook the polymer compact and subcompact pistols.  Most are good quality, at a much easier price.
