For all Chemistry classes in my school, there is a mandatory science fair project.  I have no idea what to even do mine on.  I can't seem to find any specifications on what there is to do either so I guess it's just do whatever.

What should I do for my project?

inb4 bicarb/vinegar volcano.

Do something fun. Find out why Potassium 'splodes in water, then do a demo of it. You may want to talk  to your teacher about it first, though.

He already said that one isn't allowed.

I was thinking a demonstration of greenhouse gasses in a controlled environment. Make 3 small bio domes, each with some small plants inside. Have equally intense lights on each dome. One dome leave as is, water it, etc. Second dome burn a match in it every day. Third dome, burn a match in it every hour. Then record the changes in the plants.

What would I make the bio domes out of if I chose this one?

Damn teachers, ruining fun with potassium before it's even thought of.

The biodome idea sounds good, though.

Show off a human heart, fresh of course.

You could always show of geothermal power by making a model of ...wait that would require a pump and a flame and piping etc. which would be a bit too much effort imo.

EDIT: Was it just potassium based experiments your teacher forbid? If so then use Caesium with water, fun times.

No, volcanoes in general, someone mentioned it and he said you can't use that one.

then just throw a shitload of potassium into water

lithium works well too.

you could also investigate why ammonium nitrate is used in explosives, and then do a small demonstration

Geothermal power is not volcanoes. Geothermal power is using ground source heat pumps to pump water down a hole in the ground (roughly 30-100 metres, depending on location and the amount of heat wanted) which provides warm water which can then be used in radiator systems in buildings. The same works at a greater depth for creating electricity by making a deepeer hole and thus getting hotter water.

= Not volcanoes.

Would be epic, except that Frankium is so radioactive its decayed away in under 30 seconds. I suggest caesium instead as its the next best thing.

Come on now, I need something.  My mom won't let me play anything until I e-mail my project idea to my teacher.  And I need to get back to Fallout 3.

If you can get your hands on liquid nitrogen you can have some fun:

Sulfating action is always a good one. Just add soap to water and watch water-skippers sink to their death. lol

Or maybe find out how oxy-clean makes brown water, clear.

Do something on burning energy.  Thats like 'Green' 'Hug a tree' ' Recycle' and all that shit.  You'll be onto a winner.  You can burn a peanute and see how long it burns for and then look into why even food comes outta arse a differn't colour.  Even that is a sign of when energy burns it turns things a funny colour. I kid you not.
