Quick question. i know that P45 motherboads have 2 PCI-E x16 slots. but with 2 card in crossfire they will only run at x8.

so, my question is. im building a rig (in a day or two when i have time) with a 4870 on the P5Q Pro motherboard... sometime down the track if i add another 4870 will i still see a big performance increase? or will it not be very big because they would only be running at x8?

It'll fine. Ask max.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Nah it's fine, x8 on a PCI 2.0 slot wont really restrict the card (if atall).  Atleast so far as am aware.

indeed. Runs perfectly fine. There are some benches over on OCF. There's a performance decrease between 0% and 3% vs. the x48 chipset.

The PCI-e is of the 2.0 flavour which has double the bandwidth of the the old PCI-e 1. So you actually get the same bandwidth as a 16x PCI-e 1 link.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Yup, that's what I was going to say.

x8 2.0 is the same bandwidth as x16 1.1
