So I was playing Left 4 Dead all happily(ish) and I was under fire from the horde on the final stage So I fire at them and I fire at them when all of a sudden I try and turn around to shoot this big tank fucker when my character couldn't turn around - because my bloody mouse had switched off!!! It isn't long before I'm on the floor fighting for my life when all of a sudden the lights come back on my mouse and I can start turning again!! Unfortunately, I'm already dead so it really didn't do much.

Its also happening while I'm browsing the net and playing my music. It keeps switching off then on again. I have a Logitech G5, the cable is plugged in properly, but I don't know any other solution :S

Try another USB port.

Brothers G7 did much the same thing, got worse until it just didn't work at all, was just age, some just die after a couple of years, not built as well as the old mx518s it seems.

Mines does that occasionally, I just tend to remove it from the USB, leave it a few seconds then plug it back in.  So far it has always picked the device back up again.

The G5 isn't wireless.

My first G5 died that way. Eventually it stopped working all together. They have a 3 year warranty I believe, send it back and get a new one.

If its a wireless mouse, it could be interference from your router. Check your wireless signal type.

My G5 did the same thing, it started doing it more and more frequently until I got rid of it.

my shitty microsoft occasionally does the same thing, but only when the PC is booting up, i.e. occasionally my PC boots up without the mouse working (wired + optical)

plug it in again works for me, but for me it never happens in the middle of stuff

so does my friend's G7.  i contacted logitech support about it and then tried it on another computer.  it worked.  until today, when it randomly started doing it again.  time to call support...

Try this: grab the cable about an inch from where it connects to the mouse, and wiggle it from side to side. If it turns off and on again, then the connection from the wire to the mouse is fucked.
My friend had the same thing happen to his G5. He opened it up, resoldered it and it works fine, but you may just want to buy a new mouse, depending on its age.

Thats why I love my good ole mx518, best $70 I have spent. I have used it for going on 3yrs, it's been dropped, thrown and abused like a 16yr old girl at a frat party and its still going strong!

Nah, my old 518 had the same issues kptk´s g5 has. Some loose shit inside the mouse. Once it switched off, i hit it and it turned back on. After driving me crazy i hit the wall with it and after that it never turned on again .

This happened to my cheap ass mouse from maplins. Just get a new one, it's probably broken. Even better check if it is still under warrranty.
