I got an E8400, 4GB OCZ Platinum, HD4870, P5Q Pro, 22x Samsung Syncmaster, Antec 900, Corsair HX520 and a 160GB WD Caviar for £700. 160GB was a massive oversight on my part, but oh well.

unless you do a lot of number crunching (transcoding, DCing, ...) a 45nm dual will be a lot faster.
2GB Ram is a little on the low side these days. I just went to 8GB on my main PC
The HD4850/4870 will be a lot faster than the 9800GT

Better heatsinks, more power phases for the CPU (important if you do hardcore quad core OCing)

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Whats the difference between

HD4850 TOP 512mb
HD4850 HDTI 1Gb

because there's a difference of $40, and I remember that before they used to only add memory which had little impact and sold it for more. is it the case here?

The TOP 512 is factory OCed, the 1GB one has more ram. You don't need more than 512MB. 256MB can be too little sometimes, 512MB is optimal. Chances are the 512MB will also OC better

ultimate tbh. I reformatted to 64bit from my 32bit install. Runs like a champ, even with 5 active VMs, folding and various other apps

I don't recommend Business edition. Could not get BF2 to work, tried everything, later noticed lots more people have problems getting some games to work with this version. Seems this version just isn't optimized for gaming.

fair enough

All versions of vista are identical and perform the same. They only differ in the extras, RDC, domains, movie maker, media center, ...

No it Shouldn't.

Here is pretty much my final build (buying from local store. a condition with the loan I'm getting...)

Antec Twelve Hundred   - 225,00
Asus P5Q  - 177,60
Core 2 Duo 8400 3,0Ghz  - 236,50
Crucial Ballistix 2x 2gb ddr2-6400 (800mhz)  - 125,00
2x 320gb western digital sataII 16mo cache - 142,00 (72,00 each)
LG DVD-RW 20x lightscribe IDE+Sata  -  33,60

now what I'm undecided on:

Video card:
Asus 9800GTX+ 512mb  - 285,60
Asus HD4850 TOP 512mb  - 264,00

Monitor:
Acer 22" X223WBD 5ms 2500:1  - 252,00
LG 22" W2242TQ-BF 5ms 8000:1   - 252,00

Power Supply:
I'll see what they have. Does anyone know if CoolMax 600W is a good psu brand?

I'm pretty sure that memory won't work with this board, but I'll see what I can get at the store.

How come 800 instead of 1066MHz RAM?

And $125 sounds a bit much for 4GB of PC6400

Because thats all they have written online, they do have 2x1gb @ 95,00.
That's one thing i need to see with them. and 125,00 is rather high for that, but its a local store not newegg sadly.

here's the pdf for what they have in store (they can order, which takes 24hours. but i have to see with them the prices.)
http://www.ordixtreme.com/pieces.html

I'm trying to keep it sub $1500 without the monitor

or if you can find some reseller in quebec, then that would work out too. I need to buy it in quebec.

    * Châteauguay
    * Chomedey (Laval)
    * Crémazie
    * Lasalle
    * Laval
    * Longueuil
    * Pointe-Claire
    * Québec
    * Repentigny
    * Rosemère
    * St-Hubert
    * St-Hyacinthe
    * St-Jean-sur-Richelieu
    * St-Jérôme
    * St-Léonard
    * Orléans, Ontario
    * Sherbrooke

It is fairly expensive though

definitely the HD4850. The ram you have won't OC very well afaik, so you'll be limited to a max OC of 3.6-3.8GHz on the CPU. The LG seems to be a little better.

I have no idea about that PSU

Can't you order from newegg.ca or similar?

I'll see what ram i can get from the store when i go. But i don't really plan on overclocking much, so will it matter too much?
And I can't order from newegg because it's not located in quebec, and my loan specifies me to buy local. probably for the economy and what not.

Going from 3GHz to 3.6 is already a nice increase in performance. For anything more you'll need an aftermarket HSF anyhow (inb4ig). Personally I'd just hate to have my CPU be limited by ram.

Find someone in Quebec that'll order from newegg and then sell it on to you?
