Get a ThinkPad. Awesome machines
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

tbh...I had a T42 for a while, I could run battlefield on all low w/ a 64MB Radoen 9800 mobile series.

If you're so mac-inclined, get the older one, the newer ones look like the Apple designers were drunk when they made them, two-tone looks stupid.

well if you are a hardcore designer, then i would go with the new one.
If you arent then it would be fine to keep the old one.
Thats what the people at mac said, well when i was there.

An HP.

I love HP.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

So I guess hardcore design simply was not possible up until recently

Do you not realise what a glass screen with black outlines and a fully aluminium body can do for hardcore design?

Tough choice.

- Old Mac's batteries exploded.
- New Mac's video cards melt crotches.

I'll take door number 3.

I wouldn't get a Mac.

And about the "hardcore design" or whatever, many designers are bitching about the new super-glossy glass screens. All of the graphic design programs can run in Windows, too, so Apple really no longer holds the graphic design penchant anymore. Besides, you get a fraction of the USB ports with a Mac that you can get with a Windows computer ... why? Because Steve Jobs is retarded, that's why.

Personally, I would get a Sony Vaio. One of their nice business laptops with the built in 3G modem (they have like 4 different models, all really nicely spec'd out). But if you don't live in Europe, it doesn't make much sense. Either way, an ASUS or a Sony would sit you just right.

But if you were BENT on getting a Macbook and that was the only computer you wanted, I would get the older model.

Obviously the price difference is *somewhat* noticeable in this case. I have a new MacBook myself and love it - the trackpad feels great, keyboard is fine (although my y key comes off occasionally now - not sure if I did that) and it is very nimble to use. Go in to a store and try one of the new ones first because they really are love/hate. The new ones run cooler (apparently) which could also be another reason to go with them.

The old one, obviously. The new ones are shit. Glossy glass screen that gets stuff stuck in it and sometimes gets condensation in (like the iMacs), massively increased price with virtually no performance boost - I could go on and on.

The new ones are awful. But then the old ones (with the 8600M GT) had a big problem with graphics (Apple have just brought out a special diagnostic tool specifically for this fault).

The MacBooks have far fewer issues than the Pros, but if you need a decent 3D graphics accelerator, then you need a Pro. Certainly don't buy a new one, since they are one of the most ill conceived products Apple have ever designed, an absolute pile of shite.

My favourite Apple laptop is the 17" MBP.

The fact that the pad has no pressure sensor just makes it uber fail. I mean, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU LEAVE THAT OUT? It's NOT making life more simple, just more fucking annoying. I never use the buttons underneath the pad, the pressure sensors on laptops are good enough and much easier to use. No movement off the mouse pad.

But yeah, Bertster is right.

Black screen and silver casing...just doesn't look right IMO.  It's a love/hate thing like you said, my above post was a more "flame Apple for the lulz," seeing as were on a more PC-based Forum...
