Good home theater system?

After watching The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray, I realized my TV's speakers just don't cut it anymore. I decided that with the holiday money that I recieve, I'm going to treat myself to a home theater-in-a-box as they call it.

Has to follow these guidelines:

- $400 or below
- 7.1 or 5.1
- HDMI is preferable
- Needs to come with all the cables I need, and if it doesn't, I need to know which ones to buy
- Newegg is the most preferred store, but I'll accept others.
- Needs work with my 360/PS3.

My TV is a Sharp Aquos LC32D62U.

if you have to do a htib, then go with something by yamaha.

no built in dvd/receiver combo BS.

imo, you would be much better off saving some money and going to get a real receiver and speakers instead of a htib.

Onkyo is a pretty safe bet, they usually make great stuff. I'd get this. Check the reviews before you buy though.

Yeah, those look pretty good. I've heard some good stuff about Onkyo. I was looking at this Samsung set before though:

Hmm. I don't like the look of those speakers. Never heard of the brand + there's no reviews.

Polk Audio has been around awhile, they're pretty decent. Personally though, I'd rather spend the money on a different brand, one that is notable but a bit unknown. There are tons out there.

But for a basic starter HTiB system, I'll always recommend Onkyo first. Their receivers are top notch and their HTiB's aren't half bad either (certainly usually the best bang for the buck in their respective price range).

@ Pos, I recently got an onkyo set. It's super tits.. Can't remember the model but its the 7.1 and I paid 799.00. You want a reciever that will decode Dts true Hd and DTs master audio. This is essential for optimal Bluray audio expierience. Save your money and wait itll be worth it.

The great thing about all of the onkyo htib systems is that they all come with their own receiver and discreet dvd player, so you can upgrade to better speakers if you get the money for them later on.

My brother has some Klipsch speakers for his PC...they're incredible.

Now that I think about it, I can probably go 2.1...in fact, that'd probably be the best choice. My room's really not that big, and this is FOR my room, so..

then look at a couple real good bookshelves, and a decent receiver.

a good rule of thumb:
if you drop real money on GOOD speakers, you wont have to replace them. but you WILL have to replace the receiver once every few years..just to keep current.

put your money towards good speakers and they will last you a lifetime.

that receiver is good shit....gimme a few minutes to look for some good bookshelves.

you only need two bookshelves and a sub now, right?

a BADASS set of bookshelves;

It's kinda daft to get a HTiB for less than $400 anyways...it'll suck.
If you want good speakers, Klipsch are definitely among the best, SDM not far behind. If you're wanting to play good sound, make sure you get shielded cables, and also that you have the right inputs (sound silly, but it happens). I'd recommend using the receiver only for sound, and sending the video signal straight to the TV. Get a Polk sub, they're good.

I'm getting these. Klipsch are awesome by reputation, I'm hoping they sound as good as everyone says they will.
