Since these awsome pieces of silicon start to find their ways to more and more PCs, I think it is time to dedicate a thread for them.

Anything about Intel's Core i5/i7 processors will do here.

Overclocking results, test results, BIOS settings, help, info etc... I will personally try to help as I get my 920 soon.

I might add a Core i5/i7 SuperPi 1M ranking here too when we have more Nehalem users.

i7 has QPI to connect to the NB or other CPUs, i5 has a different socket and the NB built in. GPUs, ethernet and all that connects directly to the CPU

Ok I am in. What do you want to know?

I have upgraded to the i7 965 processor (3.2GHz), with FoxConn Renaissance mobo, and OCZ Platinum 3GB, DDR3 1333 Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory.

Other Hardware:
Nvidia 8800GTX
WD Raptors, model WD740ADFD RAID0 - 64blocksize
Enermax 550watt power supply, model: EG651P-VE 24P
Windows Vista Ulitmate 32-bit, (friend could not get me the 64bit version for free of course)

After a week of not playing due to a RMA, I am making up for lost time of gaming playing so I haven't done much of anything else. Though I did run a couple of baseline Everest (ver 4.06) benchmarks; one in dual-channel and the other in triple-channel. The scores blew every computer they had listed except for a dual-xeons, but b/w dual-channel and triple-channel the scores are similar. I'll somehow publish my reports for you to see.

ok I will run one on my computer

Also run/post PC Advantage and 3D Advantage and compare them to these mobo: source

SuperPi will run when I go to bed and check it the morning after. Damn I won't get any game playing tonight

3DMark Score
PCMark Score

I have two PDF files from Everest benchmark:
Everest4.6 Def_Bench
The first Everest Benchmark is with the default CPU / Memory BIOS settings (AUTO).
Everest 1333_Bench
The secondh Everest Benchmark is with the memory timing changed to manual and speed set to 1333.
I am using OCZ Tech platinum triple channel kit; they will not go 1600 or faster.

I finished posting my scores on my previous post. Also compared my score with the $300.00+ mobos on AnandTech website (link in previous post).

Everest 4.6 I did good but PCVantage/3DVantage Mark my score was meh.
The Renaissance board is not a true gaming board, but the price is under the $300 price line.
On top of that, my PSU can not support the latest video card(s) so I am kinda stuck there for now

I'll have to run Super Pi again, not sure how Anandtech got those numbers for the other X58 motherboards.

I think I'll settle for final clock of 3.8GHz @ 1.344V with HT on. I can push north of 4GHz, but I need either loads of voltage or disable HT

*continues tweaking*

SuperPi plz. Given that loubot posted 13 seconds at default clocks, sub 10 should be easily achievable with 3.8ghz.

Holy shit. This i7 system need 280W under load. And I'm not running any fancy GPUs either. Just the mobo, 3 sticks of ram, HD3450, 2.5'' HDD. Even if I estimate the PSU efficiency conservatively that's still like 170W for the CPU

I'm getting 11.03s under vista for superPI @ 3.8GHz. Not really surprising as the i7s aren't all that much faster than the C2Ds in single threaded apps. Most other people also seem to get ~11s

on fah I'm getting 9800PPD. That's like 4 times faster than a C2D clock for clock
