I'm personally waiting for GT300 which is rumored to replace this beats in Q1 2009 (just like GTX 280 replaced 9800GX2).

Still, its a freaking fast card. And no doubt the most expensive as well.

So what's the difference between this and the.....GTX 280? In terms of raw specs

Being 15 higher than the 280 I would think its either a jump in clock speeds or a jump in bit rate and memory like 750bit and 1.5gb

wow my guess was close

It's two GTX 260s on the 55nm process.  Also, rather than 216SP, it has 240 per core (like the 280), x2.  Everything else (except the cooler) are the same.  Just double it up.

If this is real I though nvidia learned their lesson with the 7950gx2 cards.

yah.

There is also a GTX 285 apparantly for those of us who are not fans of dual GPU cards.  Which, may be a good buy, it should be atleast 10% faster than stock 280s.

a GT300 might replace this sooner than you think. (same performance with one chip, just like from 9800GX2 > GTX 280).

So... I will wait... this is a short-lived card only designed for taking performance crown back to nvidia.

8800GT is still rape.

To. Be. Honest.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Doesn't make them fail less at fah

How so, name me a game that stutters on 8800GT. (Crysis and GTAIV don't count because they are unoptimized pieces of shit)

Irrelevant, it runs fine on 8800GT if CPU is powerful enough.

I love AA+AF... I can bring a 8800 series card to its knees even at resolution 1280x1024....

I don't like minimum fsp of  like <20...

I can't stand no AA, I always use 8x or 16x and I haven't been able to put any game I play on it's knees, even that I play @ 1600x1200

My monitor has such high pixel density, that I can even make it without AA, if I have to

I do prefer at least 4X.

8800GT in:

World in Conflict DX10 mode with AA+AF = FAIL http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2 … 202,00.asp

Company of Heroes DX10 with AA+AF = FAIL

list goes on...
