RTS/FPS/RPG Hybrid. It was originally $30 but sales peaked a while ago so it's free now. I have been playing the series since Savage 1's "beta" and personally I think it is a pretty awesome genre.

Basically, there are two teams. There is a commander on each team who builds in a RTS view. He can also issue commands for organizing your teams strategy such as helping a building construct faster, mining extra gold, move here, attack here, attack this unit, etc. You don't have to follow these commands but you get rewarded when you do.

Everyone else plays as a unit in the FPS/TPS view. There are several units you can spawn as with different functions and abilities such as a basic building assist/repair/mining units, melee based, ranged based, healers, building seige, etc. There are about 7 or 8 different units for each team(human & beast). You can buy more powerful, higher tier units and items with gold as your commander builds and expands your tech tree like any other RTS. You also gain exp and get stat points which you can spend to increase your own strength, endurance, intelligence, and stamina.

When you get kills, you collect souls. If your commander builds a shrine on one of the maps scars you can spend souls to become a hellbourne unit. These units are much more powerful and can only heal by collecting more souls. You win when one team destroys the other teams headquarters.

I like the original alot. Particularly once they made that community exp. pack or w/e it was standard.

Pretty mad game that. No. 2 looks pretty crazy too.

I wonder how the devs make a living though.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

So, any good?

Worth the GB download?

I imagine it's much like WoW, looks like it from the videos anyway. Skills etc?

If Savage 1 is any indication, it varies from person to person. In S1, it helped if you were familiar with Warcraft RTS's and games like BF2.

The players ran around killing buildings, creatures and enemy units for resources and experience, helping to construct (via melee attack) buildings for experience, and helping (via melee) to mine for resources. The player-commander was in charge of building construction, AI workers, tech research and expansion to outlying mines, issuing orders, and giving player-fighters officer status (giving them a range of voice commands and a flag on their back for other players to rally to). Players had three organic melee classes, humans had two mechanical siege classes, and beasts had two organic siege classes. You could switch classes, purchase weapons, special items, extra ammo, et al from HQ or garrisons as provided by commander in exchange for your own gold or the team's pool. Leveling took place from bottom rank to around 10 (if I remember right) each match (quickly enough, if you knew what you were doing), and you got various upgrades as rewards (more armor, etc.). Victory was generally achieved at the total destruction of the enemy base.

Haven't played S2 yet, but I imagine it's much the same.

They have expanded on the game quite a bit, but it has all the basics of the first game.

I have always wanted some of that. I hear it is really stringy? Like what they use on pizza? Mmm.

It was either cheddar, parmesian, or mozzarella. Don't remember

Back on topic: The beta for savage 1 was fairly decent, but the beasts were overpowering once they got their good stuff ready. They might of fixed that already so I don't know.
