Hey,

I'm in the process of buying a video-editing tool. If I had the money I'd go Premiere Pro or Avid etc, but since I don't I just have to stick with the consumer products. I'm choosing between Pinnacle Studio 12 plus and Adobe Premiere Elements 7. Which one is superior? Or maybe I should rephrase that, which is the least "I'm making cheesy wedding videos with even cheesier effects"? I want to be able to make some serious stuff.
I'm leaning towards Premiere Elements 7.

Thanks,

"The best transition is a hard cut"

One would think Adobe would be superior.

I'm not sure about Premiere Elements, but Pro has major problems with Xvid (and DivX, I think), so keep that in mind.

There's a lot of effort that is put in to making these kinds of software, so I'd rather buy it. And I'm not gonna be playing around with some lame footage, I want to make a bit more serious stuff so I feel it's necessary to have the real deal. But the issue of downloading versus buying belongs to another discussion.

I think Sony Vegas is to expensive. And I wont be using DivX formats so it's not gonna be a problem. Any other thoughts?

Well I found this:
Studio Ultimate 11 is very "user friendly", is for beginners & intermediates
.. Premiere Elements, for intermediates, is a "simplified" version of the old
"master" Adobe Premiere 2 ( 3 now) which is top of the line with very steep
learning curve. I do have both, Pinnacle Studio 11 (Ultimate) & Premiere
Elements 2 (I think version 3 is out now) but I keep using Studio 11 mainly
because I haven't had enough time to work & understand Premiere but once I
become familiar with it I don't think I'll go back to Studio 11.
From this

I say Premiere.

About Vegas: I've tried that. Uninstalled half an hour later.

Thanks, that supports my decision further. I think I'll be buying the Adobe Premiere Elements 7 & Photoshop Elements 7 Upgrade, since I already have an older version of the the bundle.

Any other thoughts before I seal the deal?

Vegas > everything to be quite honest. You do need double monitors though, otherwise your preview box is 200x150

What about the consumer Vegas versions, like Vegas Movie Studio 9 (Pro Pack)?

I actually think I'll go with the Sony Vegas Platinum Pro Pack,  a lot of bang for your buck. Nice audio programs and lots of effects, plus it doesn't have that "I'm-making-a-corn-wedding-video" feel to it. It's even cheaper than Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12, and cheaper than the Photoshop & Premiere elements pack. Thanks for the tip!

Anybody has any thoughts?
