I just build a new comp for xmas and of course I wanted to test how my pc records with fraps, since I love videoediting.
Now I only have two hard-drives, my new WD 320GB SATA and my old Seagate 120GB IDE. I`ve read that fraps records best when its installed
and set to record to another hard-drive than the system hard-drive. So, I was hoping that the 120GB IDE of mine could take the massive data that fraps gives but apparently it cant. (Only 40 fps @ 1280x1024, no likey) I can record just fine with the SATA drive, but the only problem is that the fps drops from 70-90 to 10 time to time.
So, I was thinking that maybe I could copy my SATA drives files to the IDE drive, then use the SATA drive for recording and the IDE drive for windows. I just dont know if this slows my comp/other programs due to the slower transfer-rate.

Too bad I wasnt smart enough to by two 160GB drives instead of one 320...

PS. I have defragged the SATA-drive and cleaned it of all useless shit I dont need, so its not that.

You could indeed do something like that (except, the simplest way is not to try just copying the files for windows and everything) - do a 2nd, minimal, install of windows (enough to run fraps and whatever game you want to play/record) to your IDE, then just boot into it when you want to do some frapsing.

OH and yeah, things, in general, will run slower when booting from the IDE, but it won't affect FPS in-game too much, if at all.

Just put it on the SATA, it won't hurt anything.

Thanks, that worked out great. (Cons 85fps w/ fraps)
