I was pleasantly surprised that the price of large TFT monitors has come down quite a lot. As I'm going for the GTX 295 as soon as I get a little more money, I really want to replace my decent but nowadays small 17" BenQ capable of only 1280x1024 resolution.
I don't want to go 1920x1200 tho as it gets very heavy on the gfx cards and probably would make me upgrade a bit too often.

What I want is a 1680x1050 resolution (isn't this the new standard instead of 1600x1200?).

After some searching I found out that Samsung T220 is selling at 250€. I could just afford it after all my other upgrades. (withing 3 months timeframe tho)

So is it a nice 22-inchy or do you guys recommend something else? I really don't want to pay more than 250€ at max.

Down a lot? In Iceland, the price has almost doubled, damn recession

But yeah, Samsungs are always great monitors, I have a 226BW myself and it works perfectly. I say go for it.

I believe that the T range of samsungs are pretty much the best they make, that makes them in effect the best makes best range. Buy it.

Have a look at the LG227-WT. Absolutely excellent 22" TN monitor with virtually zero input latency. In terms of response times, it's impossible to tell the difference between it and a CRT monitor, and the colours are great after a bit of fiddling with the settings.

It has a HD res. Would non-standard res. be causing troubles in game when setting to high res?

that's nothing off-standard. Normal 16:9. If 16:10 is supported, :9 tends to also be.

And panzer, 1920px is no problem for most cards. I have a single 88gt, and it runs most stuff without any issues.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

what about Asus VH242H 23.6" 1920x1080?

It costs the same as the Samsung T220... Which one is better?

Well:

The Samsung and ASUS one's have basically the same specs, except that the ASUS is a bit bigger and has a response time of 5ms, while the Samsung is a but smaller with a response time of 2ms.

Another thing, the Samsung has 1680 x 1050 max res and the ASUS has 1920 x 1080 max res.

16:9 VS 16:10, with the ASUS being much wider. A few games may not support that res properly, so you might see some stretching, but less black boxes when watching videos.

Your choice really and depends if you think it will noticable.

I guess the Samsung T220 is safest bet. Thanks everyone for help! I'm sure I will love it.

I'm getting a T200 for my birthday

It runs the same resolution as the T220 only the pixel density is higher,,

I currently have a 19" high end LG flatron with a native of 1280x1024

I'm sitting two feet away from it so going 26" is too much for me and I prefer the pixel density of the T200 over the size of the T220

I read that the T200 supports non-wide resolutions by going to the menu of the display and setting it to another aspect ratio, creating black stripes at the sides.. I don't see why there shouldn't be a 16:10 included in those settings

The battlefield series does not support 5:4 or widescreen resolutions properly out the box, however there is a program you can download that is allowed by punkbuster that will let you run the correct resolutions without stretching anything...

All new games support widescreen as it seems to be on its way to becoming the standard for computerscreens aswell..
