I agree with Max, except I want to stick XP x64 between Vista 64 and Vista 32

Right now I'm using Linux AMD64

Vista is great tbh.  I only have 32bit ATM, but might upgrade to 64, seeming as I have 4GB of RAM, it only see's 3.

XP was good, now it's sort of there.  Doesn't support for XP end in 2009?

It was originally supposed to end somewhere in 2007 as far as I remember, Microsoft has postponed it 3 times by now since they know they will lose all of their business customers if they stop the support...

Actually, Windows 7 is actually pretty good in my messing around with the beta phase.  I'd say go with Vista for now until Windows 7 is released if you really want.  XP Pro is good if you still want to you use XP

Yeah, most medium/large businesses still use XP since it's more compatible with VPN clients, Lotus Notes, etc., and a complete switch to Vista requires lots of time, money, and they get in the ass from all of the questions, compatibility issues, and general bitching from stupid users.

It'll be interesting to see when businesses become forced to switch...

The first thing I've been doing when getting business laptops with Vista on them is rearranging every one of them to look and feel like Windows XP.

Stop messing with the GUI, Microsoft!

I hope windows 7 will be more like XP and not take up a full gigabyte of ram when idling

If you buy an ATi graphics card, especially in CF, you shoot yourself in foot by putting XP on.

XP is SLOWER than Vista SP1 with ATi cards. Very noticable difference that only gets bigger with AA. Yes I have tried it myself... got 30% boost in Crysis fps when made the switch from Vista to Vista SP1. You can see the XP vs. Vista results elsewhere.

I'm sick of this... fine if u want it slower.... but there is absolutely nothing wrong with my vista x64 ultimate.

Protip: pre-beta =/= final result

Pre-beta vista was pretty much identical to XP except for under the hood -.-

Wait for the first service pack of Windows 7 before you get it. You'll at least be a step ahead when it comes to all the security flaws and vulnerabilities that are exploited immediately after release because Microsoft are lax in security.

Really? Ubuntu (and most other Linux distros) do everything that XP does better, and can do a lot more than that. The only thing missing is native directx support, but that's because directx is made by MICROSOFT.

Oh, and all Linux is free, beat that.

Sydney, OpenGL and Glide ftw.

It's the fucking game companies that suck Microsoft dick too much rather than release open source gfx compatibility.

I'm waiting for the Windows 7 release. Microsoft has been hinting at a summer release for Windows 7, though OFFICIALLY they have been saying Q1 2010. Even still, they've been really squirrely on the release date by giving mixed messages. ASUS has also said there would be a new touchscreen EEE running W7 by the summer.

I really, REALLY hate the amount of terminal commands you have to go through to fix even the simplest of problems in Linux...

I know it is because I don't know the commands but honestly... Microsoft OS > Linux when it comes to userfreindlyness and compability..

Imho microsoft could have the client OS monopoly if it stood to me.. that way compability would be at 100%

Also I mainly use my PC for gaming so I will never be running Ubuntu in anything more than virtual machines..
