Camera advice from camera pro's :)

Since quite some of you are into quality cameras I'm asking for advice. Coming over to the US of A next friday and I'm thinking of getting a decent camera since the dolla is cheap for us €uros I'm not interested in a pocket thingie. We have two of them already and they basically are ok for party quality but not for good photos. I want a camera that I can use in a hockey game, so the main feature must be good picture quality indoors without the use of flash. I've been looking at some Sony's on the Bestbuy website, but looking on the features I'm a bit off the track. I don't know what I should be looking at. Budget? Try not to go over 400 $ I'm staying in N.Y. so stores on Manhattan or on Long Island are the ones I can get to.

Are these anything worth buying?

My dad's got a Pentax K10-D that I get to use sometimes (because my camera ain't an SLR > ) and that's pretty schweet, and about £300.

I guess I'm one of the resident photography guys so I'll bite..

Straight up, I know pretty much jack all (re: gear specs) about camera's other than Canon ones. However, if you want to be taking hockey pictures indoors, without the use of flash, you should look for a camera with GOOD low light capabilities - ie. comparatively low noise (graininess) at high ISO sensitivities.

Just a word of caution - good hockey shots are usually the realm of professional DSLRs paired with good fast lenses since the light in most hockey rinks is photographically shit. But good luck finding a camera.

Just curiously, why Sony? If going for a DSLR, I'd say Canon (or Nikon)..

A DSRL is a must for good pictures. The lower end ones will work for indoor no flash photography, you just need a little longer exposure times. If you're not taking pics of anything fast moving it'll work nicely.

At least that's my experience with my canon EOS 400D

No particular reason. Just happened to look at those Sony models first. Not ruling out any options so far.
