Under previous worry that no buyer would be found for Honda, the tables have turned as Honda's two cars will be on the grid in the 2009 season. Barichello, Formula 1's oldest driving veteran, is poised to leave and be replaced by the young Senna. Great news for all F1 fans, Honda were a great team. The power of dreams was enough.

Honda will be present on the starting grid in 2009 after the Formula One team was rescued by the world's second richest man. Italian newspaper La Stampa has reported that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has ploughed his cash into the ailing firm after they announced earlier this month that they would withdraw from F1 due to the global financial crisis.

The newspaper did not name its source but claimed that Jenson Button and rookie Bruno Senna would represent the team next year, with veteran Rubens Barrichello as expected dropping out. "The news is not official as all the details have yet to be formalised," said the paper. "But two things are certain - the team has been saved and the drivers will be Jenson Button and rookie Bruno Senna."

Honda had a disappointing year, finishing ninth in the constructors championship with just 14 points, but the announcement of their withdrawal still came as a shock. The Japanese company first competed in F1 in 1964 with the latest of its three Grand Prix wins coming via Button's success in Hungary in 2006.

Tis good news to hear that the boys from Brackley will be on the grid.  Now we may see if the car is in fact, ready and ready to become a challenger.  The new rules for next year may ( I stress 'may') be an equalizer of sorts.  We may see other teams up front besides SFM and McLaren...this in and of itself will be refreshing imo.

btw...

This kinda caught me blindsided.  What happened to Prodrive, and when did this Mexican cat become a player in Honda's F1 future?

I hate it for Rubens, the guy is getting up there in age, and he has claimed that its Honda or nobody.  So...will it be nobody for Rubens now?
Rubens should retire imo, perhaps a "consultation" role, such a Schumaker has with Ferrari.
I like Rubens, I'd hate to see him leave the sport entirely.

So with all these problems here and there, I wonder if teams will still be able to implement the KERS system that has been added to the Formula for the 2009 season. Cos as it was, I heard teams were having problems with it, now there's financial shit to consider, might be an interesting season. Slicks are allowed again, maybe Slicks are cheaper than Grooved, so that helps

Honda have an advantage there I hear. They say that their testing was a success during the middle of the year
